Certified Welding Inspector 1 - Columbus, NE:
Position Title: Certified Welding Inspector 1 (Hydraulic Cylinders & Heavy Equipment).
Education: CWI Certification is required.
Experience: 2 years minimum cumulative experience in similar or related roles, preferably within a manufacturing or engineering environment (e.g. CWI, Welder, robotic welding etc.). Experience in the mentoring and training of individuals and small groups is required.
Location: Columbus, NE.
Job Type: Full-Time.
Remote: No. On-site in Columbus, NE.
Salary: Commensurate with experience: $30.00/hour-$38.00/hour, plus benefits.

POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the CWI supervisor, the Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) carries out tasks as part of the Weld team in support of Operations and Engineering.
Frequent and direct interaction with interested parties such as company employees and suppliers is required, along with communication across the business. The CWI will support the Operations and Engineering teams in producing quality results by auditing welding standards, procedures, instructions, prints and equipment, providing monitoring, measurement and analysis services of weld operations and processes, and assisting in driving improvement methodologies related to weld across the business. Mentoring and training of new employees.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Auditing standards, specifications, techniques, processes, procedures, instructions, forms and other documents related to production welding processes.

  2. Support Operations in the day-to-day verification and visual inspection (VT) of welded products and of welding processes, to ensure ongoing compliance with all federal, state, and industry welding regulations.

  3. Support Engineering in the understanding of customer requirements relating to weld, and in the evaluation of usual, unusual or otherwise complex materials, heating requirements or other material science related to product performance and functionality.

  4. Assist in the creation of, or prepare, technical reports related to welding as required.

  5. Day-to-day support in the investigation of customer complaints when required.

  6. Support of Root Cause Analysis for instances of nonconformance with products and services involving welded components.

  7. Assist with returned / nonconforming product and material as part of the Warranty Evaluation process as required.

  8. Tactical responsibility for following internal Quality Management System (QMS) audit program as a member of the Quality team, with specific focus on weld processes and documentation.

  9. Work with shop welding team with Continuous Improvement (CI) projects.

  10. Help Identify nonconformities such as repeat weld related issues with orientation, weld leaks, weld quality.

  11. Perform random weld audits, verify processes are followed, as well as personnel qualifications

  12. Identify the need for jigs and fixtures.

  13. Knowledge of PQR/ WPS welder qualification to AWS D1.1

  14. Maintains basic welding equipment. Schedule maintenance with welding equipment failures, verify calibration of welding equipment.

  15. Verifying welding consumables shelf life.

MARGINAL RESPONSIBILIES:

  1. Ensure all Health and Safety requirements are adhered to during the completion of all duties and responsibilities, and support all other employees to achieve the same.

  2. Support the overall achievement of goals as strategically coordinated by the Director of Quality.

  3. Work to the assigned personal development strategy based on the goals and objectives of the Quality group, business succession planning and related organizational strategies.

  4. Represent the Weld operators and or Quality group on cross-functional teams or when coordinating, assisting or attending events, or visits with interested parties (e.g. suppliers, customers, stakeholders, etc.).

SUPERVISORY RESPONSBILITIES:
None
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  1. 2 years minimum cumulative experience in similar or related roles, preferably within a manufacturing or engineering environment (e.g. CWI, Welder, robotic welding etc.).

  2. Experience in the mentoring and training of individuals and small groups is required.

LICENCES AND CERTIFICATIONS:

  1. American Welding Society (AWS) – Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) credentials and up to date.

Further areas of study that would be desirable are:

  1. ASME endorsement

  2. Military welding code Navsea etc...

  3. Certified Process Analyst

  4. Six Sigma (Yellow / Green belt)

Other certifications held by the individual will be reviewed for suitability towards successfully performing the role.

  1. Excellent technical drawing and blueprint interpretation skills.

  2. Knowledge of PQR/ WPS to AWS D1.1

  3. Working knowledge of NDT/ NDE techniques.

  4. Good strategic abilities – can understand situations quickly and carry out suitable measures and countermeasures.

  5. Strong team working abilities; will not dismiss or rebuff others and can demonstrate the capability to agree or disagree constructively when necessary.

  6. Good negotiation skills and the ability to resolve issues by identifying effective courses of action.

  7. Goal-oriented, with the ability to self-prioritize effectively.

  8. Familiarity with manufacturing processes and businesses; machining, welding, etc.

  9. Solid and logical organizational & planning capabilities.

  10. Strong learning capability.

  11. First class communication skills, with the ability to interact appropriately with all levels of the business.

  12. Excellent writing, reading, oral and technical presentation skills.

  13. Excellent computer literacy, including the ability to adapt quickly to new software, technology and similar.
