Job description

Job Title: Transmission Line Engineer II
Company: TOR Engineering

Job Summary

TOR Engineering is seeking a skilled and motivated Transmission Line Engineer II to support the design and project management of transmission and distribution (T&D) line projects for utility and commercial clients. Projects range from 4.2 kV to 500 kV and include structural analysis, conductor selection, and modeling using PLS-CADD.

This role is ideal for an experienced engineer who is detail-oriented, customer-focused, and capable of leading projects while collaborating with internal teams. As part of a smaller, agile organization, you’ll have the opportunity to build direct relationships with clients and play a key role in project success.

Note: This is a full-time, in-office position based in Phoenix, AZ. Field visits will be required, and company vehicles will be provided.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop Plan & Profiles, Primary & Conduit Diagrams, Transmission Section Maps, Structure & Framing Details, Permitting Exhibits, and PLS-CADD models for overhead transmission lines .
  • Coordinate Sub-consultants in Civil, Structural, Relaying, and other disciplines as related to project specific deliverables.
  • Develop detailed Bills of Material documenting all major and minor items.
  • Develop loading and clearance criteria.
  • Develop and review of equipment and construction technical specifications.
  • Support review & approval of contractor Submittals & RFI’s as needed.
  • Perform yellow lines of own or others work with another engineer or designer.
  • Perform site visits, take notes and measurements of field conditions to compare with existing project drawings.
  • Review proposals for accurate scoping, scheduling, budgeting and communicate commentary with colleagues in responsible charge of developing contracts & project budgets.
  • Design of projects which adhere to National Electric Safety Code and meet te standards of clients and TOR.
  • Perform various system analyses and studies including lightning performance, circuit rating, line characteristics, corona, losses, etc.
  • Communicate with customers and attend meetings for design reviews and updates on the project.
  • Communicate with various parties to ensure designs satisfy all customer’s internal stakeholders.
  • Forecast project estimates for cashflows and refine as designs progress from inception to construction.
  • Support Customer outreach and client appreciation.
  • Provide Business Development support in seeking out new clients and expanding market share of existing client project load.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Electrical, Structural, or Mechanical) from an accredited university
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in transmission and distribution (T&D) design
  • Proficiency in PLS-CADD (required)
  • Working knowledge of CAD software
  • Strong understanding of engineering design principles and project workflows
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to lead projects and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams
  • Flexible and adaptable to changing project requirements and client needs
  • Strong attention to detail and customer service mindset
