Sterling Engineering is looking for a Project / Resident Engineer. This opportunity is with a collaborative engineering firm supporting municipal infrastructure and utility improvement projects.

Job Duties:
  • Support planning, design, and construction phases of municipal infrastructure and utility projects.
  • Perform field investigations, construction observation, and documentation.
  • Assist with engineering reports, design calculations, plans, and specifications.
  • Coordinate with contractors, municipalities, and internal technical teams.
  • Review shop drawings, pay applications, RFIs, and change orders under senior engineer guidance.
  • Monitor construction activities for compliance with plans, specifications, and regulatory requirements.
  • Support permitting submissions and coordination with regulatory agencies.
  • Contribute to both design and construction oversight from project initiation through completion.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • 3–5 years of experience in municipal engineering, sewer system analysis, or related infrastructure work.
  • Experience with hydrology and hydraulic modeling tools such as EPA SWMM, PCSWWM, HydroFlow, HEC-HMS, or similar preferred.
  • Familiarity with IDOT documentation requirements and CMMS.
  • Experience with construction inspection and municipal improvement projects.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification preferred; candidates on PE track encouraged.
  • Strong communication, documentation, and organizational skills.
