Location: West Chicago, IL and/or Colfax,NC
Department: R&D - Door Exterior Engineering
Reports To: Engineering Manager

Position Summary

As an Associate Engineer within the OC Doors R&D Exterior Engineering team, you will support research, design, validation, and continuous improvement of exterior doors and door components.

You will support engineering execution from concept through production implementation, collaborating closely with cross functional partners in manufacturing, quality, sourcing, and testing. This position is ideal for an engineer who thrives in hands on problem solving, and detailed mechanical design within a fast-paced environment with functional partners in manufacturing, quality, sourcing, and testing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in mechanical design and engineering deliverables for exterior door systems, components, and assemblies.
  • Create and update detailed dimensioned drawings to meet part or assembly specifications.
  • Create detailed documentation such as test reports, design reviews, and bill of materials.
  • Work closely with manufacturing plant teams to resolve production issues, qualify new suppliers, and support process changes.
  • Collaborate with quality engineering, sourcing, and product management to ensure product readiness and performance.
  • Communicate design intent clearly and influence decisions through data, testing insights, and tradeoff analysis.off analysis.

 

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • 0-3 years experience, in mechanical engineering within the building products, or related industries.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD (SolidWorks, Inventor) and GD&T.
  • Self-starter with a high level of curiosity and motivation to learn and grow.
  • Strong critical thinking skills to work through testing, validation, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis.
  • Strong technical writing skills with proficiency in writing test reports.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and make sound engineering judgments.
  • Strong communication skills to support both technical work and cross functional alignment.

The base salary range for this position is $57,000 to $74,000, with the potential for up to an additional 25% if the applicant hired has additional related qualifications.
