Mechanical Engineer (will consider all Sr. levels)

Redwire Space

Littleton, CO

$107K - $190K/yr

Full-time

Posted 4 days ago

Key responsibilities

  • Own specific mechanical systems and coordinate cross-team interactions for those systems

  • Develop spacecraft configuration and mechanical architecture from concept through integration

  • Create 3D spacecraft structure designs in SolidWorks and produce manufacturing drawings in GD&T according to ASME Y14.5

Job description

Where dreams and reality collide and the output is, out of this world. At Redwire Space, we are a team of dreamers and doers. Where the impossible becomes possible, and every day is an opportunity to learn and get one step closer to knowing the unknown. Join us as we pioneer next-generation space and defense technologies.
Redwire Space Missions, LLC has a current opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer (willing to consider all senior levels) to join our Spacecraft design team located at our facility in Littleton, CO. If you excel at what you do, we would like to talk to you! We are a dynamic and multi-disciplinary team that that designs spacecraft structures across both flight‑proven platforms and clean‑sheet architectures, adapts quickly to changing program needs, and owns structural solutions from concept through integration. With many more exciting projects on the horizon, our team could use your curiosity, passion, talent and experience to help us build the future of aerospace infrastructure, autonomous systems, and multi-domain operations.
Summary
It is expected that you may not know all the answers at first, but that you are eager to find them! This includes a desire to learn new skills and concepts and apply your prowess to solve our customers’ most difficult problems and invent new solutions. (If it were easy, they would do it themselves.) This is typically done by drawing on your fundamental understanding of the mechanical world and then exercising your artistic creativity to rearrange existing technology into novel applications and sometimes inventing entirely new technology.
This position will focus on developing state-of-the-art structures and mechanisms for satellites, launch vehicles, and missile defense applications. Some examples include but are not limited to spacecraft primary structure, lightweight and high‑stiffness assemblies, deployment and release mechanisms, avionics and payload mounting architectures, and tailored structural solutions enabling reliable mission performance from launch through end-of-life.
Responsibilities
  • Functionally own specific mechanical systems and coordinate cross team interactions for those systems
  • Own spacecraft configuration and mechanical architecture from concept through integration
  • Operate in a dynamic, fast paced, and multidisciplinary environment
  • Develop 3D spacecraft structure designs primarily in SolidWorks
  • Create manufacturing drawings using GD amp;T in accordance with ASME Y14.5
  • Perform first-order structural analyses and sanity‑checks to support design trades
  • Create design review packages typically using Microsoft Power Point
  • Create and maintain requirements compliance matrixes in Microsoft Excel or Jama
  • Create assembly and build documentation
  • Present and justify design decisions to internal teams and customers
  • Directly assemble prototype hardware in a laboratory environment
  • Follow internal Quality Assurance (QA) processes and procedures in compliance with AS9100 standards
  • Interface with customers, subcontractors, and manufacturers
  • Make decisions independently with limited oversight and drive clarity in ambiguous or fast‑changing requirements
  • Develop and track schedules and meet deadlines
  • Communicate professionally and effectively with teammates, leadership, and external partners
Ideal Experience
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field
  • 5 or more years of related work experience in aerospace, space, defense, or other high reliability industries
  • Experienced with SolidWorks
  • Experience generating engineering drawings and using GD amp;T
  • Familiarity with materials, coatings, lubricants, and space-rated hardware considerations
  • Experienced with mechanical design principles and engineering fundamentals
  • Ability to travel occasionally based on program needs
Desired Skills
  • Master’s degree in engineering preferred
  • Experience with spacecraft build, integration, and test environments
  • Familiarity with NASA standards, range safety, and launch vehicle user guides
  • Highly proficient with Solidworks (5000+ hours), Solidworks PDM a plus
  • Cradle-to-grave mechanical ownership experience on flight hardware
  • Finite Element Analysis experience
  • Ability to mass-optimize components based on strength, stiffness, and manufacturability
  • Understanding of design-for-manufacture and design-for-assembly principles
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance
Pay Range:
$107,000 - $190,000/annually
Grow with us as we innovate the next generation capabilities for a new era of space exploration! We offer a highly competitive benefits package along with a commitment to our core values of Integrity, Innovation, Impact, Inclusion, and Excellence.
It may not be the end if you don’t meet every single requirement above. We want people who can grow, collaborate and build a stronger team, so if you’re excited about this job posting and are good at what you do, then we encourage you to apply! You may be just the right candidate for this or other roles.
