Job description

ATCS is looking for a strong Senior Utility (Water/Wastewater) Engineer to join our team in the Hampton Roads market. This individual will be based, ideally, in our Virginia Beach, VA office where we offer a hybrid work environment. Qualified candidates that are local to our Newport News location will also be considered.

Qualified individuals will design and lead complex civil utility projects on a variety of public and private-sector projects, coordinating closely with our project teams. We’re looking for strong technical water/wastewater expertise and a demonstrated ability to effectively manage tasks.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare civil design plans, profiles, and details and serve as a technical lead for water and wastewater utility projects; Perform hydraulic modeling and capacity analysis for water and sewer systems (as applicable).
  • Support and manage permitting efforts by preparing submittals and coordinating with local and state agencies.
  • Conduct site visits to support design development and construction-phase services.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers, Project Engineers, clients and other engineering disciplines to support project delivery.
  • Ensure design work complies with applicable codes, standards, and municipal requirements.
  • Assist with proposal development and scope definition for new opportunities, as needed.

Basis Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Water Resources Engineering or another related field
  • 8+ years of related water/wastewater experience
  • Construction phase experience is desired
  • Professional Engineer’s license in VA is preferred, will consider other states with the commitment of obtaining a Virginia PE within 6 months of starting employment
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D (and/or similar design software).
  • Experience with utility modeling software (e.g., WaterGEMS, SewerGEMS) a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead design tasks, mentor junior staff, and coordinate with clients and permitting agencies.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.

Our employees are the most critical part of ATCS. For this position, we offer a competitive salary range of $79,200 to $118,800 per year, commensurate with experience and qualifications. The role is also eligible for an annual bonus, with a target 2% of the employee's annualized salary. In addition to compensation, ATCS offers outstanding, employee-focused benefits for you and your family.
