Job description

Principal Engineer, Technical Program Manager
Location: San Jose (on-site)
Ayar Labs is shattering AI data bottlenecks by moving data at the speed of light. As pioneers of co-packaged optics (CPO), we are using light instead of electricity to move data faster, further, and with a fraction of the energy needed to fuel the explosive growth of AI models.
Backed by industry giants like NVIDIA, AMD and Intel and manufactured in partnership with the world's leading semiconductor ecosystem, Ayar Labs' co-packaged optics solution is key to unleashing next-generation AI scale-up architectures.
We are seeking an experienced Engineering Program Manager to lead the development and execution of complex engineering programs within our Silicon-Photonics and Laser light source Platforms team. In the role of Engineering Program Manager, you will be responsible for coordinating and overseeing the work of cross-functional engineering teams, including software, hardware, and mechanical engineers, as well as a level of supplier interactions and engagement.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and manage program schedules, budgets, and resource plans to ensure on-time and on-budget program delivery
  • Work with cross-functional teams to define project requirements and ensure alignment on project goals, resourcing, milestones, and deliverables
  • Contribute in developing, from scratch, "gate" or "phases" for development through high volume manufacturing for the products. This includes defining the entry and exit criteria for each of these phase gates
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to identify and manage program risks, issues, and dependencies
  • Monitor program progress and provide regular status updates to senior management and other stakeholders
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement within the engineering team
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and company policies and procedures
  • Work closely with product management and marketing teams to ensure successful product launch and customer adoption
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and mentorship to team members to help them achieve their professional and personal goals

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Physics, or related field
  • 12+ years of experience in program management in semiconductors and/or photonics
  • Strong technical background in semiconductor, photonics, or optics engineering; familiarity with industry standards and best practices
  • PgMP, PMP or other program/project management certification
  • Familiarity with product development and commercialization processes

Preferred Qualifications:
  • System level experience
  • MS or PhD

Salary range: $170,000 - $210,00
