This a great opportunity for a Building Mechanical Engineer Leader to work in the role of an Associate for Mechanical Engineering with this well-established company, as they continue to expand their presence across Ottawa.
ABOUT OUR CLIENT
Our client is a leading consulting Engineering firm with multiple disciplines. They are looking to continue expanding their Mechanical Engineering division and are looking for a motivated leader who is wanting to be involved in operations and business development, facilitating the growth of their Ottawa Mechanical department in conjunction with the senior partners. There is great growth potential within this reputable firm.
ABOUT THE ROLE
The role will have a broad focus encompassing business development, client management, project delivery, project management and leadership. The successful candidate will also be responsible for supporting the various engineering teams with their project work to ensure excellent service delivery for mechanical engineering services in a consulting environment and on building projects.
Key Responsibilities include:
  • Leadership - Act as an Associate for Mechanical Engineering in this multi-disciplinary firm, managing and mentoring staff including a small group of direct reports
  • Business development - actively seek out new projects/leads whilst also nurturing existing clients and relationships
  • Be a key point of liaison for clients, attend meetings and industry events
  • Problem Solving and project planning and delivery
  • Assist with hiring and peer reviews
  • Project Management, including involvement of financials, budgets and schedules for projects
  • Ensure projects within the team are on track for successful execution
  • Possess an excellent knowledge of mechanical systems, means and methods, materials, and industry standards applied to design work, so as to be able to support the various teams
  • Knowledge of and experience with high-performance and sustainable building practices is preferred.
  • Nurture and maintain strong client relationships in and for the execution of projects, and as appropriate, support specific sales, proposal development, and project efforts
  • Attend leadership meetings to discuss operations, strategic planning, company success and deliverables
  • Oversee the design and technical success of building HVAC, Plumbing and Fire Protection systems amongst the team
  • Assist with determining the scope and fees for proposed engineering services.
  • Keep Principal informed of any necessary information pertaining to projects, team members or deliverables
The minimum qualifications for this position are:
  • Professional Engineer with registration in Ontario
  • 7+ years of experience in Mechanical Engineering, with some leadership experience
  • Experience managing a team preferred
  • Some experience with business development preferably in Ottawa and a good industry network
  • Solid knowledge and application of the mechanical and/or plumbing requirements per building codes, energy codes, and other related standards
  • Strong communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Excellent client and project management skills
  • Strong Leadership skills, enthusiastic and energetic demeanor, able to delegate and manage staff and teams
  • LEED® Accredited Professional is preferred but not essential
