Job description

Role Overview

As an Engineer Sr / Staff – Controls Engineering, you will lead the design, integration, and commissioning of control systems supporting power generation, battery energy storage (BESS), and other energy infrastructure projects. Working across the full project lifecycle, you'll partner with EPC contractors, OEMs, and cross‑functional engineering teams to deliver safe, reliable, and efficient plant control solutions.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the design and integration of plant‑wide control systems, including Balance of Plant (BOP) Generator and turbine controls, Power Management Systems (PMS), and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
  • Develop and review control narratives, system logic, cause‑and‑effect matrices, and network architectures.
  • Provide technical direction to control system integrators, vendors, and OEM partners.
  • Support FEED, detailed design, procurement, construction, commissioning, startup, and operations.
  • Troubleshoot, test, and optimize control systems to improve reliability and performance.
  • Lead design reviews, Management of Change (MOC), and system implementation activities.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, regulatory, and engineering standards.
  • Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, and operations teams to deliver integrated plant solutions.
Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or related field.

Engineer Sr: 8+ years of controls engineering experience in power generation, energy, or industrial facilities.

Engineer Staff: 15+ years of progressive controls engineering experience leading complex projects.

Preferred: Professional Engineer (P.E.) license.

Technical Experience
  • PLC, DCS, HMI, and SCADA systems
  • Control system programming, configuration, and troubleshooting (Allen‑Bradley / FactoryTalk and AVEVA (Wonderware))
  • Power system controls and SEL applications
  • Industrial networking and OT/IT integration (OPC UA, DNP3, and IEC 61850 communications)
  • P&IDs, instrumentation, and control system commissioning
  • Large capital projects and EPC environments
Travel

Approximately 25%, with increased travel during commissioning and startup activities.
