We are looking for a skilled Controls Engineer to join our Manufacturing team in Norman, OK. This role focuses on the design, implementation, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of control systems for production equipment and automated manufacturing processes. You will support HVAC manufacturing, assembly lines, press brakes, laser systems, and other critical plant equipment to maximize uptime, efficiency, safety, and quality. This is a hands-on position ideal for someone passionate about industrial automation in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and resolve electrical, controls, and automation issues on the production floor to minimize downtime (root cause analysis, corrective actions).
  • Collaborate with Maintenance, Facilities, and Engineering teams on equipment upgrades, new installations, and integration of new technologies.
  • Develop and optimize control logic, sequences, and safety interlocks to improve throughput, quality, and energy efficiency.
  • Support MFMEA, risk assessments, and reliability initiatives for manufacturing equipment.
  • Create and maintain accurate documentation including electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, PLC programs, HMI screens, and standard operating procedures.

  • Participate in continuous improvement (Lean/CI) projects, including automation enhancements and process optimization.
  • Provide technical training and support to maintenance technicians and operators.
  • Manage small-to-medium capital projects related to controls and automation.
  • Occasional travel for training, supplier support, or multi-site collaboration.

  • 3 years of hands-on experience as a Controls Engineer or Automation Engineer in a manufacturing environment (HVAC, automotive, or heavy industry preferred).

Technical Skills:
  • Proficiency in PLC programming (Siemens, Allen-Bradley, or similar), HMI development, and industrial networking.
  • Experience with variable frequency drives (VFDs), servo systems, sensors, vision systems, and robotics.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills for electrical controls, instrumentation, and automated equipment.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes such as coil forming, sheet metal handling, pressing, or assembly lines is a plus.
  • Knowledge of safety circuits, electrical design standards, and CAD tools for schematics.
