Job Summary


Reporting to the Engineering Manager, or any other individual designated by the Company, the Junior Project Engineer will be responsible for the planning, coordination, and execution of engineering projects and assist with the implementation of capital and sustaining projects from concept through commissioning.


This role provides technical and project coordination support while developing practical experience in engineering design, project management, and field implementation.

Responsibilities


Project Engineering Support

  • Assist in planning and coordinating engineering projects from concept through implementation and close-out.
  • Support development of project scopes, schedules, budgets, and technical documentation.
  • Assist in tracking project progress, deliverables, and milestones to ensure alignment with project plans.
  • Coordinate project activities with internal departments including operations, maintenance, procurement, and environmental teams.

Engineering Design & Technical Assistance

  • Assist with reviewing engineering drawings, technical specifications, and project documentation.
  • Support preparation and review of construction drawings, layouts, and equipment specifications.
  • Provide technical support during equipment installation, construction activities, and system upgrades.
  • Assist with troubleshooting technical issues and identifying practical engineering solutions.

Construction & Commissioning Support

  • Provide field support during construction, installation, and commissioning of engineering projects.
  • Assist with inspection of installations to verify compliance with engineering designs and project specifications.
  • Coordinate with contractors and vendors during project execution.
  • Support start-up activities and operational handover to site teams.

Documentation & Continuous Improvement

  • Maintain accurate project documentation, reports, and engineering records.
  • Assist in preparing technical reports, project updates, and presentations for project stakeholders.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to lessons learned reviews following project completion.

Other Duties

  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned to meet operational needs.

Requirements:

Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Environmental, Mining, or related discipline).
  • Zero (0) to three (3) years of engineering experience in mining, heavy industrial, manufacturing, construction, or infrastructure projects.
  • Internship or cooperative education experience in engineering or industrial project environments is considered an asset.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) registration or eligibility for professional engineering licensure is considered an asset.


Skills and Abilities


  • Basic understanding of engineering principles and project execution in industrial environments.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documents.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Familiarity with engineering design or project management software (e.g., AutoCAD, project scheduling tools) is considered an asset.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.


Physical Job Requirements & Working Conditions


This role requires the ability to work in both office and active project site environments, including occasional travel to operating or construction sites. Physical requirements may include extended periods of sitting and computer use, walking on uneven terrain, climbing stairs or accessing elevated platforms, and wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, safety glasses, steel-toe boots, respiratory protection and high-visibility clothing. The position may involve exposure to varying weather conditions, noise, dust, and other typical construction or industrial site environments, while maintaining a strong commitment to safety and compliance with all health, safety, and environmental standards.
