What is an engine?

Engine jobs typically refer to roles involved in the design, development, maintenance, or operation of engines, which are machines that convert energy into mechanical motion. These positions can be found in industries like automotive, aerospace, marine, and manufacturing. Engine jobs may include engine designers, mechanics, technicians, and engineers who ensure engines function efficiently, safely, and in compliance with regulations. Duties often involve troubleshooting, repairing, testing, and improving engine systems. Candidates usually need specialized training or education in mechanical engineering or a related field.

What are some common challenges faced by engine engineers when working on multidisciplinary teams?

Engine engineers often collaborate with professionals from various disciplines, such as electrical engineers, software developers, and project managers. One common challenge is effectively communicating complex technical concepts across different areas of expertise, ensuring everyone is aligned on project goals. Additionally, balancing design constraints—such as performance, cost, and regulatory standards—while working within tight deadlines can be demanding. Successful engine engineers develop strong teamwork and problem-solving skills to navigate these challenges and deliver high-quality results.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an engine engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Engine Engineer, you need strong knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, thermodynamics, and materials science, typically supported by a relevant engineering degree. Proficiency with CAD software, simulation tools like ANSYS, and familiarity with industry standards or certifications such as EIT or PE are commonly required. Attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and effective teamwork distinguish top performers in this field. These skills ensure the safe, efficient, and innovative design and maintenance of engines in various applications.

What is the difference between Engine vs Mechanic?

AspectEngineMechanic

The term 'Engine' typically refers to the mechanical component itself or the department responsible for engine design and manufacturing. While both roles require technical skills, 'Engine' is more about the component or engineering aspect, whereas 'Mechanic' focuses on hands-on repair and maintenance tasks.

Job description

Overview:

Working at Atlassian

Atlassians can choose where they work – whether in an office, from home, or a combination of the two. That way, Atlassians have more control over supporting their family, personal goals, and other priorities. We can hire people in any country where we have a legal entity.

Responsibilities:

In this role, you will:

  • Manage a team of SEO and AEO experts, building and sustaining a high-performing team culture — fostering efficiency, iteration, and collaboration.

  • Own and establish the goals, outcomes, and strategy for the SEO/AEO team, aligning with department and organizational objectives to drive measurable results.

  • Develop team members' capabilities through ongoing coaching, mentorship, and guidance — helping them grow business acumen, cross-functional partnership skills, and channel expertise.

  • Identify opportunities for improvement within the team's domain, leveraging industry knowledge to evaluate and resolve operational issues and optimize processes.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with product marketing, content, growth product, and engineering teams to ensure SEO/AEO recommendations are implemented effectively and aligned with broader marketing strategy.

  • Ensure the team delivers on technical SEO priorities (site hygiene, accessibility, structured data), maintaining high quality and operational excellence.

  • Develop metrics and KPIs to evaluate marketing impact — analyze data to optimize strategies, inform resource allocation, and communicate progress to leadership to foster alignment and transparency.

  • Influence cross-functional partners and senior stakeholders by presenting data-driven evidence and building alignment between SEO/AEO and broader marketing and product strategies.

  • Provide direction during industry transitions (e.g., AI-powered search, Google SGE, LLM-driven discovery), supporting the team and cross-functional peers in navigating change and adapting strategies to maintain Atlassian's visibility.

  • Lead critical analysis of emerging risks or underperformance in organic and AI-driven channels — identify root causes, respond to algorithm changes or competitive shifts, and guide the team to effective solutions.

  • Work through cross-functional prioritization requiring evaluation of multiple factors; apply independent judgment in selecting milestones and directing the team toward creative solutions.

Qualifications

Your background:

  • 5+ years of SEO experience, including 2+ years leading or managing an SEO team.

  • People leader with experience setting team-level goals and OKRs aligned with broader organizational objectives.

  • Demonstrated ability to influence cross-functional peers and senior stakeholders (e.g., product, engineering, PMM leaders) by translating SEO insights into business language and building alignment.

  • Track record of building high-performing teams — hiring, setting expectations, giving feedback, and developing talent.

  • Proven ability to scale organic search as a performance channel through a combination of content, technical SEO, and cross-functional collaboration.

  • Strong analytical and reporting skills using tools like Google Analytics, Looker Studio, or Tableau.

  • Deep proficiency with SEO platforms and tools: Google Search Console, Brightedge, Semrush, Screaming Frog, and other organic visibility tools.

  • Experience with technical SEO implementation, including core areas like indexation, crawl optimization, page speed, and structured data.

  • Ability to navigate ambiguity and make decisions with incomplete information, directing creative solutions at the team level.

  • Experience driving high-performance culture and team health across distributed or remote teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of SEO experience in an enterprise B2B SaaS environment.

  • Experience managing large-scale enterprise SEO strategies for multi-product or international B2B brands.

  • Exposure to AI-driven SEO/AEO workflows, such as content ideation, optimization, and large-scale testing and experimentation.

  • Sets aspirational yet attainable goals for self and team; consistently evaluates team-level operational performance to optimize outcomes.
