Position Description: NorthStar Equipment Rentals is hiring a Small Tool & Engine Mechanic in Edmonton. This role will primarily be responsible for inspecting, maintaining, repairing and testing a variety of general construction equipment. They will diagnose and repair gas, air and electric power tools including small hand power tools - corded & cordless, lighting equipment, heaters, fans, saws and drills. The ideal candidate would have a strong understanding of all types of construction equipment and possess rental industry experience.

Reporting to: Operations Manager

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Inspect, troubleshoot, repair and maintain NorthStar Rental Equipment fleet
  • Perform routine maintenance such as cleaning and servicing of equipment to manufactures specification
  • Calibrate components and instruments according to manufacturers' specifications
  • Perform repairs and maintenance on all construction heating equipment including indirect heaters, direct heaters and glycol heaters.
  • Perform pre-delivery inspections on equipment
  • Maintain work area in a clean and organized manner
  • Complete work orders documenting repairs, time and parts used
  • Make on-site service calls to inspect, service and repair rental equipment as needed
  • Complete all maintenance and repair activities in a safe and healthy manner according to company policies and procedures
  • Live our CORE Values, have a Can-Do Attitude, Respect Others, Succeed as a Team, Lead with Courage and Deliver Results
  • Adhere to NorthStar Equipment Rentals policies and procedures
  • Participate in the branch on call schedule and be able to work overtime as required
  • Perform additional job related assignments as directed by supervisor

Skills & Knowledge:

  • Understands the importance of time management
  • Must be able to work both indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions
  • A valid first aid certificate would be an asset
  • Understanding of proper use for the tools that are being repaired
  • Welding/soldering experience would be an asset
  • Gas fitting experience would be an asset
  • Ability to lift 50+ pounds
  • Must exhibit a high level of safety consciousness and a clear understanding of equipment safety

Qualifications:

  • Possess at a minimum a High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Diploma or completion of an apprenticeship program in technician, small engine repair or a related field is preferred
  • 3 - 5 years of previous experience in a similar role
  • Strong understanding of the operation, maintenance and repair of small tools and engines
  • Confirmed ability to learn new technology and repair and service procedures and specifications
  • Strong communication, attention to details and analytical skills
  • Valid class 5 driver's license with clean driver's abstract
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication
  • Must provide own basic mechanic tools (Allowable tools will be reimbursed up to $950 per calendar year. (January 1st - December 31st )
