About the Role
The Marketing Communications Specialist helps translate The Engine's work into compelling communications for founders, investors, partners, and the broader Tough Tech ecosystem. This is a writing-intensive role for someone who enjoys turning complex ideas into clear stories across email, web, social media, events, and campaigns. The ideal candidate combines exceptional writing with strong organizational skills and a sharp eye for visual communication. Success in this role means helping key audiences better understand how The Engine can create value for them, with consistent, well-executed communications that drive participation.
Key Responsibilities
Writing, Editing, and Content Development
  • Write and edit clear, compelling copy across email, web, social, events, video, and other channels.
  • Develop audience-specific content that translates programs, partnerships, milestones, and founder stories into The Engine's voice.
  • Interview internal stakeholders, residents, and partners to gather source material and shape strong messaging.

Campaign Execution and Management
  • Manage day-to-day content scheduling and publishing across key channels.
  • Support cross-functional campaigns, including message development, asset creation, and calendar maintenance.
  • Track basic performance metrics and use insights to improve future communications.
  • Support website updates, light SEO, and coordination with designers, freelancers, and vendors.

Storytelling & Resources
  • Help identify and communicate stories, milestones, and outcomes worth sharing.
  • Execute all event and program communications with clear, on-brand messaging.
  • Maintain and expand founder-facing resources, templates, newsletters, and other communications assets.
  • Support the development of The Engine's annual impact report

Cross-Functional Coordination
  • Collaborate with Programs, Partnerships, Infrastructure, The Builder Platform, and other teams to plan communications.
  • Support reporting and data entry related to communications and program metrics, including HubSpot.
  • Assist the Senior Manager of Marketing & Programs on cross-functional projects and priority initiatives.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in marketing, communications, journalism, English, or a related field.
  • 2-3 years of writing and communications experience across email, web, social, and campaign content.
  • Strong writing and editing skills, with samples that show range and judgment.
  • Comfort working across formats, managing multiple deadlines, and interviewing subject matter experts.
  • Familiarity with communications tools such as email platforms, social scheduling tools, HubSpot, or similar systems.
  • Interest in using AI to improve workflow and execution.
