Test Technician III - Grand Rapids, MI
 
DISHER is partnering with a leading manufacturer of general-purpose engines in Grand Rapids, Michigan to fill their Test Technician III position. In this role, you will independently lead engine and dynamometer test setup and execution to evaluate current and future products in alignment with engineering requirements and departmental standards.

You will work in a small division of a global business that has over 100 years of experience in the motors industry. They manufacture and market a wide variety of engines for products such as motorcycles, jet skis, and ATVs. This specific division is responsible for engine and R&D testing. The company has a family-oriented culture that emphasizes teamwork, support, and getting the job done. 
What you will get to do:
  • Independently set up and conduct engine dynamometer testing, including engine and instrumentation
    installation, adherence to procedures, documentation, and real-time monitoring.
  • Set up data loggers and data acquisition systems; select and install appropriate sensors and manage
    data files.
  • Perform application-level testing including engine installation in equipment and operation of outdoor
    power machinery.
  • Monitor and evaluate test data during execution; identify and escalate abnormalities, coordinate in root
    cause analysis when required.
  • Support engineering in development of new test procedures and systems.
  • Perform thorough engine diagnosis and troubleshooting.
  • Perform complete engine disassembly and reassembly for inspection and modification with a high
    degree of accuracy.
  • Maintain test cells, replace worn components, and perform preventative maintenance.
  • Independently troubleshoot dynamometers, instrumentation systems, and low-voltage wiring.
  • Manage ordering and inventory of parts and testing materials.
  • Utilize Excel and data software for analysis and documentation.
  • Independently generate comprehensive test reports with analysis and conclusions including plots,
    tables, and photo documentation.
  • Maintain working knowledge of lab and facility systems.
  • Perform other responsibilities as required.
  • Provide training and technical guidance to less experienced technicians.
What will make you successful:
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 4 to 7 years of progressive hands-on experience in engine testing, dynamometer operation,
    or advanced mechanical diagnostics.
  • Associate degree in Engine Technology or related field preferred; technical certifications considered a
    plus.
  • Advanced troubleshooting experience with engines, dynamometers, instrumentation systems, and lowvoltage
    wiring.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret technical data and adapt test procedures in real time.
  • Experience mentoring or training junior technicians is preferred.
  • Strong collaboration skills and ability to interface effectively with engineering teams.
  • Ability to successfully prioritize, organize, and execute multiple tasks concurrently.
  • Exceptional attention to detail with a disciplined, deadline-driven approach.
  • Must demonstrate a positive attitude; be self-motivated and able to work as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication skills, both interpersonal and via email and other digital platforms.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
