Position Summary

The Diagnostic Technician is responsible for performing advanced diagnostics, troubleshooting, and major mechanical repairs on heavy-duty trucks and commercial vehicles. This role specializes in identifying and resolving complex issues involving diesel engines, transmissions, electrical systems, aftertreatment systems, and vehicle electronics. The technician is expected to provide accurate diagnoses while maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and efficiency.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform advanced diagnostics using OEM diagnostic software and tools.
  • Diagnose and repair heavy-duty diesel engines, including:
    • International
    • Cummins
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair manual and automatic transmissions, including:
    • Allison
    • Eaton
  • Perform major engine repairs, including:
    • Overhauls
    • In-frame rebuilds
    • Cylinder head replacement
    • Turbocharger replacement
    • Fuel system repairs
  • Perform major transmission replacements.
  • Diagnose and repair electrical and electronic systems, including CAN communication networks.
  • Troubleshoot emissions and aftertreatment systems (DPF, DOC, SCR, DEF systems).
  • Perform engine performance testing and road testing to verify repairs.
  • Accurately document diagnostic procedures, findings, and repairs in the repair order.
  • Work closely with Service Advisors and the Service Manager to communicate repair recommendations.
  • Assist other technicians with difficult diagnostic concerns when needed.
  • Follow OEM repair procedures and warranty guidelines.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Complete repairs efficiently while meeting productivity and quality standards.
  • Participate in manufacturer training and maintain required certifications.
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience diagnosing and repairing heavy-duty diesel trucks.
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • International trucks
    • Cummins engines
    • Allison transmissions
    • Eaton transmissions
  • Experience with OEM diagnostic software such as:
    • International ServiceMaxx
    • Cummins INSITE
    • Allison DOC
    • Eaton ServiceRanger
  • Strong understanding of diesel engine operation, fuel systems, electrical systems, air systems, and emissions systems.
  • Ability to interpret wiring diagrams, service manuals, and technical bulletins.
  • Valid driver's license (CDL preferred).
Preferred Qualifications
  • ASE Medium/Heavy Truck Certifications.
  • International, Cummins, Allison, or Eaton factory certifications.
  • HVAC and EPA certification is a plus.
  • Welding and fabrication experience is desirable.
