Job description

Job Summary:

The Surveillance Inspector performs inspections in accordance with current technical data, manufacturer Instructions for Continued Airworthiness (ICA), Airworthiness Directives, service bulletins, service letters, and other FAA-accepted or approved data. This role conducts preliminary, hidden damage, in-process, receiving, module, and final inspections to ensure airworthiness, regulatory compliance, and adherence to company quality standards within GEM’s FAA Part 145 Repair Station. The Surveillance Inspector reports to the Lead Surveillance Inspector.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Perform inspections of the maintenance, preventive maintenance, or alteration of a powerplant/aircraft or appliance, or a part thereof, for which properly rated under 14 CFR 65.85, 65.87, and 65.95 (excluding major repairs to, and major alterations of, instruments unless specifically authorized).
  • Accomplish inspection and Required Inspection Items (RII) as specified on the M-16 Maintenance and Inspection Authorization Card. When performing inspection and RII functions, the Surveillance Inspector reports directly to the VP of Quality and operates independently of production supervision.
  • Perform inspections and required inspections in accordance with the methods, standards, techniques, and limits required by accepted or approved technical data to determine that the work was satisfactorily completed.
  • Verify that required tooling, calibrated equipment, and approved technical data are used during the accomplishment of the maintenance and preventive maintenance tasks being inspected.
  • Inspect major repairs and alterations accomplished to verify that the performance was in accordance with approved or authorized data, proper tools and test equipment were utilized, and no unauthorized deviations occurred.
  • Record inspections performed on maintenance, preventive maintenance, repairs, and alterations in accordance with Company procedures and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Generate and sign FAA Form 337 as required for major repairs and alterations.
  • Conduct inspection tasks as specified on Company task cards for customer engines, modules, and components, recording defects and discrepancies as required.
  • Review corrective action entries, including installed parts tags and supportingdocumentation, for completion, traceability, and proper authorization prior to signoff.
  • When assigned to Airworthiness Release duties, review deferred maintenance items and completed logbook entries, including installed parts tags and service forms, for completion and proper authorization prior to signing the Airworthiness Release and submitting required documentation to the appropriate authority.
  • Complete inspection turnover when assigned to letter check inspections or as required by the performance of required inspections, ensuring the status of incomplete tasks is properly documented and available for reference by the incoming inspector.
  • Perform receiving inspection on incoming parts, materials, and tooling to verify conformity, traceability, certification documentation, and serviceability status, and generate applicable identification tags.
  • Report to the Lead Surveillance Inspector all matters adversely affecting airworthiness, regulatory compliance, or maintenance efficiency.
  • Perform detailed borescope inspections in accordance with OEM instructions and regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee and verify engine incoming condition, receiving documentation, inventory records, and borescope findings.
  • Conduct module inspections and in-process surveillance signoffs to ensure compliance with company procedures and FAA standards.
  • Review and issue shop paperwork for disassembly, assembly, and final inspection to ensure accuracy, completeness, and traceability.
  • Perform troubleshooting, repairs, and rework verification of engine parts and assemblies as required.
  • Interpret and apply information from routers, OEM manuals, Airworthiness Directives, service bulletins, and other technical data during inspections.
  • Monitor and provide oversight of CFM Technicians’ work to ensure adherence to procedures, quality standards, and safety practices.
  • Maintain compliance with 14 CFR Part 145, the Company Repair Station Manual (RSM), Quality Control Manual (QCM), Safety Management System (SMS), and all applicable regulatory requirements.
Education and Experience:
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Production Planner or Coordinator within an aviation MRO environment.
  • Experience supporting CFM56 engine maintenance programs preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of MRO production workflows and scheduling practices.
  • Proficiency with ERP/MRO systems; Quantum experience preferred.

  • Primarily office-based with desk and computer work.
