Job description

Security Guard

To provide general support for campus security related tasks; to patrol buildings and grounds to prevent fire, theft, vandalism and unauthorized entry; and to assist in the assurance of student safety on campus and during the school day and during special district activities.

  • By example and enforcement, assist with student safety needs by regulating appropriate behavior and enforcing school policies.
  • May be asked to monitor in-school suspension.
  • Patrols and inspects doors, windows and gates, school grounds, cars and parking lots.
  • Confronts unauthorized persons and questions. Calls police for assistance according to emergency action plan.
  • Prepares reports including documentation for emergencies, vandalism, disturbances, and names of individuals entering in the evening.
  • If appropriate - updates travel and maintenance logs for security vehicles.
  • Responds to calls for services or emergencies including but not limited to student incidents, burglar alarms, fire alarms and calls regarding conspicuous persons.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge of federal, state, and city laws, rules and regulations. Knowledge of district policies and procedures. Knowledge of general safety rules and techniques. Skill with working with law enforcement and school administration. Skill in training security guards and other personnel on best practices for safety and security. Skill in patrolling and monitoring physical areas and people. Skill in assuring safety at activities. Skill in communicating orally and in writing. Skill in performing first aid. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with others.

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Three years work experience in security or a related field or an equivalent combination or education and experience that provide the required knowledge and skill.
  • Must meet Arizona Department of Health Services safety and health requirements which include proof of immunity from Measles and Rubella.
  • IVP fingerprint Clearance card.

Able to perform the following physical requirements of the position with or without reasonable accommodation: critical sensory requirements include general vision, corrected to 20/20, hear or listen in the normal range (corrected) and speak and give directions clearly. Able to walk, sit, stand, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, lift (exerting force up to 50 pounds), carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects up to 125 lbs.

  • Arizona Driver's License the ability to obtain First Aid
  • CPR certification within 60 days of employment.
