Job Summary

Oversees renewable energy operations and maintenance for energy generation facilities including wind, solar, battery energy storage, and hybrid renewable energy systems. Leads operational teams and ensures operational efficiencies are achieved. Manages safety, compliance, and financial budgeting. Partners with business units to execute operating vision and strategic initiatives. Leads work force planning, continuous improvement, and organizational strategy for current and future renewable assets. Span of control: Leads team(s) of supervisors/leaders and individual contributors.

Key Accountabilities
  • Leads teams that handle operations and maintenance for safe and reliable operation of renewable energy systems (e.g., wind and solar parks)
  • Oversees quality and timeliness of product/work output to achieve corporate goals
  • Ensures implementation of safety standards and acts as Incident Commander for all site emergencies in coordination with area law enforcement and emergency first responders Works with System Operations Center (SOC), Merchant Operations Center (MOC), and Transmission Owner/Operator (TO) on all aspects of grid and market integration of renewable generation sites
  • Oversees all aspects of out of service territory sub-station operation and maintenance
  • Manages all aspects of major component exchanges and/or repairs including invertors, blades, gearboxes, and bearings
  • Represents company with landowner concerns and governmental issues related to the safe and reliable operation of the renewable generating fleet
  • Provides consultation on issues and expert advice to leadership and internal/external teams
  • Ensures the accomplishment of the following core supervisory/management functions for a given group(s) within a business unit: planning, organizing, directing the performance of ongoing activities and/or special/ad hoc assignments, staffing (employee selections, training, coaching and performance management, time entry), coordinating, reporting, and budgeting
  • Leads the continuous improvement commitment and efforts for team, including designing processes, establishing quality and quantity standards and metrics, collecting, refining, adapting, and communicating best practices, sharing knowledge, and developing staff in a systematic fashion; uses process design outcomes to solve problems
Minimum Education & Experience Requirements
  • This is a multi-track base requirement job; education and experience requirements can be satisfied through one of the following options:
    • Bachelor's degree in job related discipline and 10 years of experience with utility generation operations, inclusive of 3 years of supervisory experience; OR
    • Associate degree in job related discipline and 12 years of experience with utility generation operations, inclusive of 3 years supervisory experience; OR
    • High school diploma (or GED) and 14 years of experience with utility generation operations, inclusive of 3 years supervisory experience
Other Qualifications

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline
  • Advanced degree in an engineering related field
  • Experience in energy storage, including technical expertise or leadership of field operations teams for small to large scale battery energy storage projects
  • Experience with contract development and negotiation

  • Ability to effectively lead change management initiatives
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to coordinate deadlines and logistics to successfully lead work processes within an agreed upon time frame
  • Ability to balance multiple demands from leaders, subordinates, and peers in a positive and even-handed manner and display calm demeanor under pressure
  • Ability to negotiate situations using adaptable and flexible approach
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify key issues from a broad range of alternatives and recommend optimal solutions
