Project Overview:

The Infrastructure GBU’s Renewables & Clean Power business line is executing the Maple Creek Combined Cycle Power Project, a new natural gas-fired generation facility designed to provide reliable, efficient, and flexible power generation to support growing energy demand. The project will be executed utilizing Bechtel’s proven Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) execution model, integrated digital delivery tools, and Advanced Work Packaging (AWP) processes to achieve safe, predictable, and efficient project delivery.

The Lead Civil/Structural Field Engineer will initially be based in Reston, Virginia, supporting project planning, constructability reviews, work package development, quantity forecasting, procurement coordination, and execution readiness activities. During this phase, travel to the Maple Creek project site and other Bechtel offices may be required. Upon completion of project setup activities, the successful candidate will mobilize to the project site to support civil and structural construction execution and field engineering activities.

Working closely with Engineering, Construction, Project Controls, Supply Chain, and subcontractors, the Lead Civil/Structural Field Engineer will provide technical leadership for site development, underground utilities, foundations, concrete, structural steel, buildings, and associated civil infrastructure. This role is responsible for ensuring engineering deliverables, materials, and construction activities are aligned to support safe, efficient, and predictable project execution while maintaining compliance with project specifications, quality standards, and construction schedules.

Job Summary:

In this role, you will lead a team and supervise superintendents and/or craft professionals on a project focusing on civil earthwork activities. You will direct craft professional activities and work schedules, and coordinate subcontract work activities and team development. Your oversight will ensure craft professionals have the tools required to be productive, comply with project policies, procedures, and job site work rules and procedures, and perform within specifications, schedules and budgets. #LI-RM1

Education and Experience Requirements:
  • Typically requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 5-8 years of relevant experience or 9-12 years of relevant work experience
Required Knowledge and Skills:

Strong knowledge and experience with site development, earthwork operations, excavation, underground utility systems, drainage systems, foundations, concrete construction, rebar and embed installation, structural steel erection, building construction, quantity tracking, material management, and construction planning activities. Experience supporting field engineering and construction activities on large industrial EPC projects is preferred.
Experience on Combined Cycle Power Generation projects is preferred. Candidates with experience supporting power, energy, industrial, mining, manufacturing, petrochemical, LNG, or other large industrial construction projects will also be considered. Experience supporting projects from site preparation through structural completion, equipment setting, turnover, and startup support activities is preferred.
Knowledge of constructability reviews, quantity forecasting, work package development, subcontractor management, construction sequencing, modularization concepts, and Advanced Work Packaging (AWP) processes is preferred. Experience coordinating civil and structural interfaces with piping, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and startup organizations is highly desirable.
Experience interpreting engineering drawings, grading and drainage plans, reinforced concrete drawings, structural steel drawings, specifications, vendor documentation, and construction work packages.
