Tenet-AZ Region is seeking a Endoscopy Technician for a job in Tucson, Arizona.

Position Summary

Accountable for performing and providing quality customer service in the specific environment. Effectively performs direct patient care tasks to assist Endoscopy lab licensed personnel pre, intra, and post procedure. Effectively performs technical skills during an endoscopic procedure under the direction of the physician and licensed personnel. Provides care and maintenance for endoscopes and equipment. Participates in monitoring and maintaining resources in the specific environment. Must demonstrate effective communication skills. Understands and contributes to the vision/mission and goals of the specific environment.  At CSM, works in a secure department with access to areas where medications are stored. Handles, labels, and administers medications on the procedural field under the direct supervision of licensed personnel.

  • Level 1 
    • In collaboration with the RN, provide direct patient care by following the established plan of care. Assist in collection of data for an objective assessment, i.e. vital signs, 12 lead, EKGโ€™s, and blood draws.  
    • Demonstrate knowledge of and ability to assemble and maintain Endoscopy lab equipment including but not limited to manual cleaning of endoscopes, reprocesser operations, packaging of equipment for sterilization, and biological/chemical monitoring. Malfunctions must be reported via chain of command.  
    • Assist the physician and/or RN during the procedure with Endoscopy equipment, obtaining biopsies and positioning of the patient. May assist with applying pressure to the abdomen as directed by the physician. After appropriate training, discontinues peripheral IV catheter under the direction of licensed personnel.  
    • Maintain a clean and safe patient care environment, implement and follow infection control procedures according to hospital and unit policies.  
    • Demonstrate knowledge of endoscopy guidelines for cleaning and disinfecting of equipment.  
    • Check procedure carts for necessary items prior to the start of the case, assist with room turnover, and maintain current knowledge of physician preferences, supply items, new equipment and procedures. Demonstrate follow through regarding equipment needs, special requests, ordering of supplies.  
    • Maintain patient confidentiality and privacy at all times (HIPPA requirements).  
    • Respond to staffing needs to ensure continuous coverage to facilitate uninterrupted workflow. Demonstrate ability to prioritize operations. Recognize and respond to changes in the Endoscopy lab schedule.    
    • Respond to emergencies. Seek out appropriate resources and demonstrate problem solving abilities specific to work area.  
  • Level 2 โ€“ Proficient (in addition to above duties)  
    • Participate in training new staff.  
    • Troubleshoot errors and perform quality assurance checks.  
  • Level 3 โ€“ Subject Matter Expert (in addition to above duties)  
    • Participate in quality improvement measures and monitoring within the department.  
    • Provide information to the Manager/Director as requested in review and update of department functions and procedure revisions.  
  • Minimum Requirements 
    • Education: High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (G.E.D.) 
    • Experience: One year Endoscopy Technician experience or 1 year PCT experience  
    • Certifications: CPR 
  • Preferred Requirements 
    • Education: Completion of approved GI Tech training program or PCT program. 
    • Experience: Knowledge of hospital environment and/or GI Lab. Previous hospital and/or health care related experience.
