Professionals in this role typically work in hospitals or specialized gastroenterology centers, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams. They require specialized training beyond general gastroenterology to handle intricate therapeutic interventions safely and effectively.

A typical day for an Advanced Endoscopy specialist involves performing a variety of complex procedures such as endoscopic ultrasound, ERCP, and mucosal resections, often working closely with nurses, anesthesiologists, and surgical teams. Your day will likely include patient consultations, pre- and post-procedural care, interpreting diagnostic imaging, and sometimes responding to urgent cases. You’ll also be involved in multidisciplinary meetings to discuss treatment plans and may have opportunities to teach or mentor fellows and residents. This fast-paced environment requires balancing scheduled procedures with emergent cases, making adaptability and collaborative skills invaluable.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed for advanced endoscopy?

To thrive in Advanced Endoscopy, you need specialized training in gastrointestinal procedures, expert manual dexterity, and board certification as a gastroenterologist or relevant subspecialty.
