What is end user testing?

An End User Testing (UAT) job involves evaluating software, applications, or systems from the perspective of the end user to ensure they meet business requirements and function as intended. Professionals in this role create test cases, execute testing scenarios, document defects, and provide feedback to developers and stakeholders. They help identify usability issues, functionality gaps, and overall user experience concerns before final deployment. Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and communication abilities are essential for success in this role.

What are the typical day-to-day responsibilities for someone in end user testing?

In an End User Testing role, your daily responsibilities may include creating and executing test cases based on product requirements, documenting defects and usability issues, and working closely with developers to verify resolutions. You'll often participate in feedback sessions, report findings to project managers, and help ensure the product meets real-world user expectations before release. Collaboration with cross-functional teams, including design and support, is also common. This variety keeps the role engaging and allows you to make a significant impact on the final user experience.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in end user testing, and why are they important?

To thrive in End User Testing, you need a strong understanding of software functionality, attention to detail, and an ability to identify usability issues, typically supported by experience in quality assurance or user acceptance testing. Familiarity with bug tracking tools (such as JIRA), test management systems, and knowledge of test case creation are commonly required, and certifications like ISTQB can be advantageous. Excellent communication skills, problem-solving abilities, and a collaborative mindset help you effectively interact with developers and stakeholders. These expertise ensure you can provide valuable user-centric feedback, detect issues early, and contribute to delivering high-quality, user-friendly products.

How do I become an end user tester?

To become an end user tester, you typically need good communication skills, attention to detail, and familiarity with the software or product being tested. Many roles require basic computer knowledge and the ability to follow testing instructions, often using testing tools or platforms. Some positions may require prior experience or certifications in quality assurance or software testing.

Job description

Role purpose

Own the end-to-end virtual application design that delivers MEPS+ Browse to users.

You are accountable for the Omnissa Access cluster, the Horizon brokering layer, the SecureEdgeForMEPS+ published application and the Windows Server 2025 hosting pool — and for making the service resilient across two Horizon PODs and two data centres.

You translate the requirements into a buildable design, lead the build with the platform engineers, and hand a stable service to operations.

Must Have

Omnissa Access 26.07 · Omnissa Horizon Broker 2603 · Windows Server 2025 (session hosts) · Microsoft Edge (published) · Active Directory · global entitlements / multi-POD design.

Essential skills & experience

  • Deep, hands-on architecture experience with VDI / published-application platforms — Omnissa Horizon (formerly VMware Horizon) and/or Citrix CVAD.
  • Practical knowledge of Omnissa Access (Workspace ONE Access lineage) or equivalent access/gateway layers, including resource entitlement and publishing.
  • Multi-POD / multi-site Horizon design, global entitlements and load-balanced RDSH/app pools.
  • Windows Server 2025 (or recent Server) session-host / RDSH build and application publishing.
  • Capacity sizing, image/golden-master management and application delivery for published apps.
  • Experience delivering into regulated / secure environments with strict change control.

Desirable

  • Prior SWIFT / secure financial-messaging or other high-assurance delivery experience.
  • Automation of build and configuration (PowerShell / infrastructure-as-code).
  • Experience migrating from CVAD to Omnissa Horizon.

Key responsibilities

  • Design and stand up the dedicated Omnissa Access 26.07 cluster designated for MEPS+ Browse access only, publishing the single Access cluster URL that endpoints target.
  • Design the Horizon Broker 2603 configuration and publish Edge.exe as the SecureEdgeForMEPS+ application, so users see a single launch icon after authentication.
  • Design and size the Windows Server 2025 hosting pool (the 1..X load-balanced servers) for concurrent MEPS+ demand with N+1 resilience headroom.
  • Create the global entitlement that spans the two Horizon PODs so the published app is resilient across BAS and FAR data centres.
  • Define the endpoint experience: the additional desktop icon / URL on the 20–30 dedicated thin clients and the local-browser launch to the Access URL.
  • Work with the Security Architect to apply the Edge managed-browser lockdown that constrains the session to MEPS+ Browse.
  • Produce build sheets, test plans (including POD/data-centre failover) and operational runbooks; lead functional and resilience testing and the pilot.
  • Own the migration approach from the existing CVAD browse path and the cutover/rollback plan.
