Job description

At Enclos, we don't just estimate projects. We help bring some of the most architecturally ambitious buildings in North America to life. As a leader in custom curtainwall, structural glass, and building envelope systems, Enclos partners with the world's top architects, developers, and general contractors to deliver iconic façade systems.

We are seeking a Senior Estimator to join our preconstruction team and play a key role in evaluating, pricing, and winning complex façade projects. This position combines technical expertise, leadership, and strategic thinking as you analyze construction documents, develop detailed quantity takeoffs, prepare comprehensive cost estimates, and mentor estimators. Working closely with Sales, Engineering, and Operations teams, you will help shape project strategy from the earliest stages.

POSITION OVERVIEW

Works directly with the Sales and Operations personnel in determining scope, project material quantities and overall square footage, by analyzing architectural drawings, specifications and addenda of a specific project. Prepares Enclos metal system pricing, supervises one or more Estimators in preparation of estimates to ensure strict adherence to estimating standards.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Analyzes all architectural drawings, specifications, and addenda to determine project requirements.
  • Determines Enclos scope of the project and supplies written scope of the project to the Sales Team and the Estimating Manager.
  • Prepares budget and/or hard bid take-off per attached minimum requirements.
  • Extracts, sorts and produces glass and metal materials recaps utilizing current spreadsheets or forms.
  • Maintains contact with Sales Team on a regular basis as to anticipated completion of all required take-offs and recaps in order to have an ongoing knowledge of the project status. When the bid documents are made available electronically, takes the lead in making documents available in Enclos FTP project file, periodically checks bid document site for addenda and other updates, notifies Sales Team as additional documents are added to FTP site, and follows Sales Team leader's instruction for the distribution of bid documents.
  • Furnishes required information to Estimating Manager (or Estimator II providing support) when not performing the metal estimate himself/herself.
  • Meets schedule requirements in a timely manner and keeps Sales and Estimating Manager informed of project status.
  • Assists Estimating/Sales team members as needed.
  • Prepares accurate and detailed project recaps listing all exclusions and special conditions.
  • Points out any problem areas that are discovered during the takeoff to Sales and Estimating Manager.
  • Forwards all information to Sales representative and Estimating Manager upon completion and remains available to answer any questions on the takeoff up until the project is bid.
  • Furnishes required takeoffs, drawings and specifications to preferred vendors and/or vendors as specified by Sales. Provide copies of RFQ to Sales with takeoffs. Follow up with vendors to verify that quotation was received and answer any questions. Ensures that the required pricing on outside materials is received in a timely manner.
  • Reviews quotes from vendors for bid comparison and for adhering to specifications. Notifies Sales as to any discrepancies, works with vendor to clarify quotation, copy quotations into Estimating database for future reference.
  • Establishes and maintains strong relationships with vendors.
  • Trains Estimator I and II in Estimating takeoffs.
  • Reviews provided elevation takeoffs, recaps and preliminary design drawings.
  • Designates system members and produces metal material takeoffs from bid documents.
  • Determines die requirements, framing member weights and finish perimeters. Coordinates pricing with Design and Structural departments to ensure that all extruded shapes meet specified design criteria.
  • Prepares system pricing by wall type per Enclos Master Recap on Enclos metal pricing sheets to include: system square footage, unit counts, base aluminum, finishing and shop labor costs, anchor and embed quantities, pricing for aluminum extrusions, finishing, extrusion die cost, K.D. shop fabrication, freight cost fasteners, gasket and thermal break materials, required structural steel reinforcing and brakeform shapes, all required component and alternate pricing as directed by Sales or Estimating Manager.
  • Acts as lead Estimator as assigned by Estimating Manager.
  • Provides Estimating Manager with appropriate feedback related to performance of work of Estimator I and II.
  • Uses Revit as a takeoff tool as much as possible. Consistently becomes more proficient with Revit, including speed and accuracy of work, as well as making use of other Revit features. Shares with IT any suggestions from improvements to the Revit tool.
  • Consistently training on new estimating technologies.
  • For steel and other non-traditional takeoffs, before spending significant time on this scope of work, seeks clarification from Sales team of non-traditional systems to takeoff scope of work, potential suppliers, means and methods/unit make-up and other relevant matters. Provides an accurate and detailed recap that facilitates pricing of all costs related to steel and non-traditional systems, e.g., installation, assembly, etc.
  • Performs additional assignments as requested by the Estimating Manager.
  • Capable of supervisory responsibility for employees in Estimating Department in absence of Estimating Manager. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees, planning, assigning and directing work; supplying feedback to Estimating Manager on performance.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Associate's degree (A.A.) or Bachelor's Degree; or 5 to 10 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, specifications and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office as well as advanced estimating programs and spreadsheet skills.
