Medical Assistant Opportunity in the Clinical Research Setting

As a Medical Assistant, you will be a vital part of our daily clinic operations, ensuring seamless patient experiences and providing essential clinical and administrative support to our medical staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Patient Care & Flow: Actively manage the daily schedule to minimize patient wait times. Escort patients to rooms, prepare them for their visits, and ensure treatment areas are clean and ready for each appointment.

  • Clinical Duties: Record vital signs accurately into the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and immediately notify providers of any abnormalities. Be prepared to respond to medical emergencies calmly and efficiently.

  • Procedures & Testing: Assist providers with exams and diagnostic procedures, including EKGs. Perform phlebotomy (venipunctures and finger sticks), injections, and safely collect and process laboratory specimens.

  • Medication Administration: Prepare and administer oral and injectable medications and immunizations under the direct supervision of a physician or RN, strictly within your scope of practice.

  • Documentation & Administration: Maintain meticulous patient records in the EMR. Assist with front-office tasks, including reception coverage, answering inquiries, scheduling, scanning, faxing, and filing documents appropriately.

  • Inventory & Equipment: Perform routine calibration and maintenance on clinical instruments. Receive, unpack, and organize medical supplies, keeping examination rooms fully stocked.

  • Compliance & Professionalism: Strictly adhere to all safety standards, HIPAA regulations, and confidentiality agreements regarding patients, sponsors, and institutional review boards (IRBs). Act as a courteous and professional representative of the clinic at all times.

  • Continuous Improvement: Evaluate patient care workflows and contribute ideas for departmental improvements. Float between different departments or handle special administrative projects as needed.


Work Environment & Physical Demands
  • Clinical Setting: Work is primarily conducted in a bustling medical office and clinical environment.

  • Physical Requirements: Must be able to frequently stand, walk, bend, reach, and lift up to 35 pounds (and occasionally more). Requires manual dexterity and excellent hand-eye coordination for operating medical and office equipment.

  • Exposure: Regular exposure to laboratory processing, human bodily fluids, blood-borne pathogens, and medicinal preparations.

  • Pace: Ability to thrive in a dynamic, high-volume environment with frequent interruptions. Must be capable of handling potentially emotional or high-stress situations involving patients.

  • Travel: Occasional local travel to other sites within the Denver area may be requested.


Qualifications
  • Education: High School diploma or equivalent is required.

  • Licensure: An active Medical Assistant Certification and a current CPR certification are mandatory.

  • Experience: A minimum of 1 to 2 years of hands-on medical support experience in a clinical environment.

  • Bonus: Prior experience working in an oncology setting is highly preferred.
