Employment Specialist/ Supported Employment Specialist Position Summary: The Employment Specialist assists individuals with disabilities with a person-centered approach to provide initial instruction, hands-on instruction, extensive on-going assistance, any needed resources or tools, and/or, when necessary, the job placement specialist will complete task(s) for the client related to the following * Employment Data Sheet and/or Résumé * Cover letter and Thank you letter * Professional References * Job Searching * Job Application Completion * Interview Training * Worksite Accommodations * Pre-Employment Testing * Salary Negotiation and/or Position Negotiation * Preparing for the first day on the job Upon successful placement, the Employment Specialist becomes an advocate and liaison for the client throughout the life of the case to ensure successful closure. Responsibilities: * Observe, assess, and qualify clients for job readiness programs and services to develop vocational plan * Collect employment history information to complete data sheets, resumes, cover letters and reference sheets * Search and find employment opportunities to achieve employment goals and conditions. * Assist with application process and secure interviews for clients based on client’s goal. * Train clients to navigate successful interviews * Provide any necessary training to individuals to ensure successful placement and retention for client and/or employer * Maintain healthy and viable relationships with counselors and community employers * Meet deadlines and manage caseload in a fast paced environment * Meet with client and employers to discuss employment opportunities * Job Carve as deemed necessary * Accompany the client to interviews and company visits; * Assist the employer with the Work Opportunity Tax Credit * Schedule job coaching supports to maintain employment and/or provide direct job coaching * Document all work performed to achieve employment conditions, goals, client participation, and progress on required forms and internal client management system Work Environment This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Work may be performed remotely and out in the community. Minimum Requirements: * No criminal charges related to Assault, Neglect, or Abuse * Valid Driver’s License * Good driving record * Vehicle insurance * Smart phone * Varied and successful work experience Preferred Qualifications and Skills (some combination thereof): * UNT Job Placement Specialist or Supported Employment Specialist credential * Sales and Marketing experience (highly preferred) or; * Training/Teaching experience or; * Special Education background or; * Recruiting or Staffing background or; * Previous job placement experience * Knowledgeable of Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) * Knowledgeable of accommodations for various disabilities * Experience working with people with employment barriers * Fluency in English, Spanish, and/or American Sign Language * Knowledge of Deaf community and Deaf culture * Familiar with the local city employment opportunities * Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Special Education, Rehabilitation, Deaf Support Specialist, Social Services or a closely related field.
