Job description

Duties Description The mission of the Agriculture and New York State Horse Breeding Development Fund and the New York Sire Stakes is to promote agriculture through the breeding of horses. To that end the Fund directs the state's premier harness racing program designed to stimulate the breeding, buying and racing of Standardbred horses in New York State. The New York Sire Stakes is the nation' s oldest harness racing program of its kind.

We believe that these goals can best be accomplished by supporting educational programs, equine research and supplementation of racing purses at New York State pari-mutuel tracks, County Fairs and the Goshen Historic Track. Our authority accepts that by accomplishing our mission we will improve the economic well-being of the Empire State, keep agricultural lands in service producing products of value, preserve open space and increase employment opportunities throughout the whole of New York State. The Agriculture and New York State Horse Breeding Development Fund is seeking a motivated candidate to work at the Fund's office located at 354 Broadway, Schenectady, NY.

The roles and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to: Assisting the Executive Director and Board of Trustees in the administration of the day-to-day mission of the Fund to promote agriculture through the breeding of Standardbred horses and the conduct of a three-tiered racing program in the State; Providing general office support including organizing files, assisting with invoice/payment tracking, coordinating meeting logistics, and responding to basic stakeholder inquiries; Assisting in the operation and administration of racing operations through developing, drafting and assisting in the coordination of the Sire Stakes program with pari-mutuel tracks, Goshen Historic Track and county fairs; Assisting in coordination the varying aspects of the Fund including marketing efforts, financial planning, operations, security, administration, stakeholder relations and information dissemination employed by the Fund or through contracted vendors; Attending events and certain races held at harness tracks throughout New York State. Minimum Qualifications Internship Areas: Fund Administration; Contract Management; Event Coordination Compensation: $24.00/hour Six-month term Number of Interns Needed: 1 Desired Candidate Profile: Interns should have the following skills: Analytical and evaluative skills Interpersonal and communication skills Organizational skills, efficiency, and flexibility Computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft products (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint), email software, internet searching, and other programs Minimum Standing: An undergraduate degree (B.A / B.S.) Preferred Degree Concentrations: Prior experience related to the equine industry is preferred Additional Comments Outside Activities and Employment: It is the obligation of every employee of the Fund to pursue a course of conduct that will not cause public concern as to whether such employee is engaged in activities in conflict with the public trust. It is vital that even the appearance of a conflict of interest be avoided in view of the critical nature of the Fund's responsibilities

In addition, employees should not use Fund equipment or supplies, or Fund time to pursue or engage in any such activities. All outside employment and volunteer activities must be approved by the Fund. Some positions may require additional credentials or a background check to verify your identity.
