Job description

Employment Status:Part timeShift:Day (United States of America)Facility:2331 Franklin Rd - RoanokeRequisition Number:R134593 LPN Outpatient - Part Time (Open) How You'll Help Transform Healthcare:The General Orthopedics clinic focuses on non-surgical orthopedic problems such as acute fractures, sprains, degenerative diseases and more. Clinic staff assist the provider to maintain a smooth clinic and patient satisfaction with collaborative teamwork.
Provides practical nursing support in the delivery of quality care for the patient in a physician practice or clinic setting as directed by the physician or mid-level practitioner. Complies with all federal, state, local, Carilion Clinic, and departmental policies and standards as applicable. Demonstrates knowledge of growth and development to appropriately care for patients served.
  • Provides nursing care for patients of all ages.
  • Completes patient assessment to include height, weight, vital signs, chief complaint, current medications, etc.
  • Prepares patient for provider evaluation, including obtaining specimens, positioning for exams, listing medications, assisting during exams and diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
  • Coordinates tele-retinal and tele-dermatology clinic set up.
  • Administers medications and injections as directed by the provider.
  • Maintains work area, exam, treatment and x-ray rooms and lab in a clean, safe manner; restock with supplies and instruments; sterilize reusable equipment as needed.
  • Documents and maintains patient information in the electronic medical record in a timely manner to include update treatment procedures, medication refills, test results, patient concerns, etc.
  • Contributes to Carilion Clinic's performance improvement activities.
  • Provides patient teaching as indicated and directed by the provider, including lab results, diet instructions, medication instructions, appropriate follow-up, and reinforcing provider instructions as needed.
  • Assists with referral authorizations for specialists and pre-authorizations for testing and ancillary services.
  • Assists with lab procedures, including collecting urine specimens, collecting and preparing blood samples for reference lab, labeling all specimens with accurate patient ID.
  • Observes all safety precautions and standards; assures proper disposal of specimens and contaminated waste.
  • LAB (if applicable)
  • Performs lab procedures as directed by the provider including phlebotomy, peripheral sticks, collecting and preparing urine specimens, throat smears; conduct lab testing onsite after appropriate training, including waived and moderate complexity studies.
  • Prepares equipment to begin testing lab specimens. Runs daily quality control tests as directed by lead clinical/lab staff.
  • Adheres to quality control measures with all lab procedures, performing proficiency testing and conducting control testing and calibration on all equipment. Maintains Q/A Plan.   • RADIOLOGY (if applicable)
  • Performs x-ray procedures as directed by the provider. Takes measures to prevent excessive exposure to patient and self. Completes all documentation and labeling of x-rays.
  • Performs any other tasks relating to the operation of the practice that may be assigned or requested for which training has been provided.
What We Require:

Education: Graduate of accredited school of practical nursing required, or new graduate of approved program eligible to sit for the Virginia licensure exam.
Experience: One (1) year experience in a physician office preferred.
Licensure/Certification: Current licensure as a Practical Nurse in the State of Virginia (LPN) required. Licensure as a Radiologic Technician Limited if performing radiology. Current AHA BLS-HCP certification required.
Other: Customer driven. Demonstrates a positive demeanor, good verbal and written communication skills, and a professional appearance and approach. Must have the ability to problem-solve and communicate with a wide variety of people in an effective manner. Must exhibit skills to utilize automated computer systems, including electronic medical records. Keyboarding skills required for automated computer systems, including electronic medical records.

Compensation Range:

$21.61 - $30.25

Employee pay is based on a variety of factors, including qualifications, credentials, education, and prior work experience. The compensation range does not include benefits or pension plan.
