Job Summary and Qualifications

The Paramedic assists the licensed nurse with the initial patient assessment, in triage, monitor patient for arrythmias, measure and record patientโ€™s input and output, hang crystalloid IV fluids at prescribed rate, and assist physicians with central line insertions, lumbar punctures, defibrillation, cardioversion, chest tube insertion, thoracentesis, arterial lines, and suturing. 

    • You will insert oral/nasal airways; connect patient to oxygen and monitor.
    • Perform 12-lead EKG.
    • You will initiate and discontinue peripheral intravenous catheters; insert foley catheters
    • Perform CPR, finger stick glucose monitoring, oral suctioning

    You may perform the following procedures as approved by the EMS Medical Director:

    • Perform needle chest decompression; defibrillation, cardioversion, and transcutaneous pacing; endotracheal and nasotracheal intubation.
    • Insert intraosseous lines.
    • Perform endotracheal suctioning
    • Administer fleet enemas.
    • Insertion of external jugular intravenous catheters

    What Qualifications you will need:

    ยท Successful completion of a Paramedic training course. Must have and maintain a Virginia Division of EMS EMT-Paramedic certification and ACLS certification.

    ยท Previous Emergency Room or comparable experience is required

    ยท PALS certification; PHTLS or BTLS certification is preferred

    ยท 3 years field experience as a certified EMT-Paramedic is preferred

    *Possess the ability to work 3, 12 hour NIGHT shifts:   1845 - 07:15; and 4 weekend shifts/month
