Summary: The Experienced Generator Technician is responsible for the maintenance, inspection, testing, repair, and operational readiness of emergency and standby generator systems across multiple client sites within the region. This role requires advanced technical expertise in generator systems, strong troubleshooting skills, and the ability to work independently while traveling to various locations. This individual must ensure compliance with NFPA 110, manufacturer specifications/recommendations, and JLL operational standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine and preventive maintenance, inspections, and repairs on diesel and natural gas generators, including associated components such as automatic transfer switches (ATS), control panels, fuel systems, cooling systems, exhaust systems, and batteries.
  • Conduct operational testing, including monthly load transfer tests, annual load testing, and three-year duration testing as required by NFPA 110 and JLL standards.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve generator system issues, including electrical, mechanical, and control system faults.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance, inspections, test results, and corrective actions in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements, including air emissions permits, fuel quality standards, and safety protocols. Regulatory requirements for this role will require knowledge of, but are not limited to RICE NESHAP / Title V, NFPA and EPA standards based on building type.
  • Coordinate with vendors and service providers for major repairs, annual inspections, and specialized testing.
  • Maintain, manage and order spare parts inventory, tools, and update manuals/logbooks for all generator components.
  • Adhere to JLL safety policies, including Lockout/Tagout, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and hazard assessments.
  • Provide technical guidance and training to site staff as needed.
  • Travel to multiple client sites as required to perform maintenance and repairs.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in generator maintenance and repair, including diesel, propane and natural gas systems.
  • Proven experience with generator controller software and associated licensing (or ability to receive licensing) when required.
  • Strong knowledge of NFPA 110, manufacturer maintenance schedules, and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Ability to perform load bank testing & thermal inspections (if requested), and fuel / oil sampling for analysis by a 3rd party
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting electrical systems, including ATS and control panels.
  • Adhere to company and client Universal Waste Disposal Program.
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel extensively (up to 75% travel).
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in various environments (mechanical rooms, rooftops, outdoor enclosures).
  • Strong communication and documentation skills.
  • OSHA safety training and relevant certifications (e.g., EPA Section 608, confined space, fall protection) preferred.

Work Environment:

  • Travel is required to multiple sites within assigned region.
  • Work hours: Monday - Friday (may vary based on site requirements and emergency response needs)
  • Work performed at client locations, including mechanical rooms, generator enclosures, and other facility areas.
