Repair of Caterpillar and/or related equipment or components, following established procedures and guidelines.
Wages
Starting wage will depend on experience and education. $33.80- $42.22
Responsibilities
Primary Responsibilities for Power Generator Mechanic
  • Diagnoses and repair marine diesel engines and power generators
  • Perform preventative maintenance and inspections
  • Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical systems
  • Complete repairs and document service work
  • Deliver reliable service to keep equipment running strong
  • Performing preventative and corrective maintenance of standby generator systems 5 KW through 3200 KW
  • Following proper procedures for load bank testing
  • Knowledge of automatic transfer switches and control logic
  • Troubleshooting and diagnosing emergency repair procedures of AC/DC controls
  • Troubleshooting and diagnosing gas and diesel industrial engines
  • Reading and understanding wiring diagrams and schematics
  • Providing excellent customer service to internal and external customers
  • Working independently with minimal daily supervision
  • Working in a safe manner at all times

Required Experience and Skills for Power Generator Mechanic:
  • Minimum three years of experience in the back-up generator industry or a transferable industry
  • High School Education
  • CAT, Cummins, Kohler, Detroit experienced is a huge plus
  • Ability to read, write and communicate in a professional manner
  • Knowledge of or ability to learn gas and diesel industrial engine fuel systems and controls
  • Valid driver's license required, with good driving record
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Intermediate or higher-level computer skills
  • Available for the on-call rotation schedule

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to stand for prolonged period of time
  • Ability to remain seated for 15 minutes or more while driving
  • Ability to bend, squat, stand and reach as necessary
  • Experience driving in various weather conditions to perform job functions, towing and backing

Qualifications
One-year certificate or Associates degree from a community college or technical school; Two to four years mechanical experience or equivalent education and experience.
