Job description

The Dispatcher will be responsible for troubleshooting, testing, operating, and maintaining the integrity of Amicalola EMC's Electrical Distribution System. This position will provide consistent, timely and accurate communication with field operations personnel as well as management and public relations personnel. The Dispatcher is responsible for monitoring and remotely controlling automated field devices as well as dispatching crews to ensure safe and efficient power restoration.
Education & Experience:
Highschool Diploma/ GED required.
Prior experience as a Dispatcher or System Operator in an electric utility system preferred. Other experience may be substituted which results in a general understanding of the various aspects of service in an electrical distribution system.
Abilities & Skills:
  • Proficiency with personal computers including working experience with Microsoft Word, Excel and current Windows Operating Systems.
  • Great written and oral communication skills especially via email, telephone and two-way radio with operations and contract personnel, law enforcement agencies, Amicalola members and management.
  • Ability to learn Amicalola EMC's Electrical Distribution System via Outage Management and SCADA including troubleshooting and testing remote controlled field devices and substation equipment.
  • Ability to generate, maintain and record departmental reports.
  • Ability to perform under pressure during high stress, emergency situations with multiple system alarms all while managing multiple tasks simultaneously.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
  • Must be physically and mentally able to work long shifts with irregular hours, alternating day and overnight shifts every 2 weeks.
  • Work Schedule: 7- 12 hour day shifts, then 7 days off. 7- 12 hour night shifts, then 7 days off. Overtime available. Alternating weekends and holidays required.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting and computer work.
  • Occasional walking, standing, bending, stretching, pushing, pulling, climbing, lifting and carrying materials or office supplies <20 lbs.
  • Majority of work will be performed indoors.
