Job description

Position Summary
Contract Aircraft Mechanic (Structures) is responsible for inspecting, repairing, and maintaining aircraft structural components. Ensures all sheet metal repairs and modifications are completed in accordance with FAA regulations, company procedures, and established quality standards.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Performing scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on airframes, including minor and major repairs, modifications, and fabrication of structural parts.
  • Interpreting technical manuals, blueprints, and repair drawings to determine repair methods and ensure compliance with manufacturer and regulatory standards.
  • Using hand and power tools to cut, drill, assemble, and install aircraft structural components, working with materials such as aluminum, titanium, stainless steel, and composites.
  • Inspecting for damage, corrosion, and wear, and taking corrective action to restore structural integrity.
  • Completing documentation and maintenance records to comply with regulatory and company requirements.
  • Maintaining a safe and clean work environment, adhering to safety protocols and quality standards.
  • Other duties as assigned

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Education:
  • High School/GED
  • A&P or structures experience a plus, or repairman's certificate may substitute for A&P
  • MRO experience preferred

Experience:
  • Generally, 2-3 years of experience in area of responsibility working on aircraft structures.
  • Able to use tech data and aircraft drawings to locate part numbers and accomplish repairs.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Aircraft materials and components: Understanding the properties and uses of metals, alloys, composites, and plastics used in aircraft structures.
  • Structural design principles: Familiarity with aerodynamics, stress analysis, fatigue, and load requirements.
  • Repair and fabrication methods: Knowledge of welding, riveting, cutting, and drilling techniques.
  • Aircraft systems: Awareness of related systems like landing gear, fuel tanks, and flight controls.
  • Regulations and Safety: Understanding FAA regulations, aviation safety codes, and industry standards.
  • Blueprint and schematic reading: Ability to interpret engineering drawings, technical manuals, and blueprints accurately.
  • Precision measurement: Proficiency with calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other measuring tools to meet tight tolerances.
  • Tool Proficiency: Skilled use of hand tools, power tools, and specialized equipment for fabrication and repair.
  • Inspection and analysis: Ability to detect corrosion, fatigue, and structural damage using inspection tools and techniques.
  • Problem-solving: Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills for diagnosing and resolving structural issues.
  • Communication: Effective communication with team members and other departments to coordinate repairs and ensure safety.
  • Attention to detail: High accuracy in following repair schemes, identifying defects, and ensuring compliance with standards.
