SEEKING Embedded Software/DSP Engineer in Ottawa

Job Description

Join a central AI and Chip Engineering (ACE) organization at the Ottawa Technology Center in Kanata, a flagship AI software hub within a global engineering network. This team is at the forefront of innovation, driving the enablement of edge AI—including agentic AI, generative AI, and advanced machine learning—on embedded platforms. These platforms power the next generation of automotive, industrial, robotics, and intelligent edge systems. In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to shape how AI comes to life at the edge, developing high-performance embedded software that transforms machine learning models into optimized, production-ready solutions. Your work will directly impact real-world physical AI devices, enabling intelligent systems to perceive, decide, and act in real time.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and optimize DSP and embedded software algorithms for automotive AI/ML applications.
• Implement machine learning, computer vision, or signal processing algorithms on embedded platforms.
• Perform low-level performance optimization on embedded accelerators (e.g., ARM NEON, GPUs, DSPs).
• Support AI/ML software bring-up and integration on semiconductor chips (edge AI).
• Conduct in-depth performance analysis and tuning based on hardware architecture.

Essential Skills

• 4+ years of embedded software development experience.
• Experience developing multithreaded applications in embedded environments.
• Strong C++ development skills and working knowledge of Python.
• Solid understanding of complex embedded systems and hardware-software interaction.
• Experience optimizing software for hardware constraints and performance optimization.
• Experience using hardware-specific features such as DSPs, GPUs, SIMD, NEON.
• Ability to implement and optimize algorithms with awareness of hardware limitations.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in algorithm development (AI/ML, image processing, computer vision, DSP).
• Experience with AI/ML accelerators or compilers.
• Exposure to automotive standards (ISO, ASPICE, MISRA).
• Experience with C++14 or newer.
• Scripting experience, Python preferred.
• Experience with build systems (CMake, Bazel).
• Knowledge of DSP frameworks (OpenCL, CUDA, OpenGL).
• Familiarity with RTOS environments (Linux, QNX, Integrity).

Work Environment

The position is primarily based in Ottawa, with a requirement to work in the office three days a week.

This is a Contract position based out of Ottawa, ON.

The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $68.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.

This is a hybrid position in Ottawa,ON.
