Job description

 Title : Embedded Systems Engineer
Location: Orlando, FL Job Summary:

We are seeking an Embedded Systems Engineer to join a team of highly skilled engineers working on challenging and strategically important missions. The engineer will primarily focus on the software implementation and testing of closed-loop control systems for gimbaled systems.

A working knowledge of control theory is not required, as control-loop algorithms will be developed by the Control Systems Engineering team.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Implement real-time control system designs in C++ using well-written and efficient coding practices.

  • Implement communication protocols to interface with and control hardware such as motors, gyros, encoders, and power supplies.

  • Understand and apply concepts related to timing, concurrency, and thread prioritization.

  • Implement BIT/FIT functionality for gimbal systems.

  • Develop and troubleshoot software in Linux operating systems.

  • Assist senior engineers with creating and assembling prototypes.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure product functionality throughout challenging Design Validation Testing (DVT) activities.

  • Support indoor and outdoor data collection events.

  • Present test results and findings to engineering teams and senior leadership.

  • Work on systems throughout all stages of development, from prototyping through root-cause analysis.

  • Assist with laboratory equipment and experiment setup.

  • Support calibration cycles, including equipment maintenance.

  • Research, order, and set up new engineering equipment.

  • Conduct technical web research and surveys as needed.

  • Support engineering documentation, including data files, reports, drawings, and presentations.

  • Perform other related engineering, analysis, documentation, and reporting activities as required.

  • Strong programming experience in C++.

  • Experience working with Linux operating systems.

  • Understanding of real-time systems, timing, threads, and prioritization.

  • Interest in working in a hands-on laboratory environment.

  • Aptitude for hands-on optical and electro-mechanical projects.

  • Ability to take direction and execute tasks with minimal supervision.

  • Ability to work effectively in a dynamic and fast-paced engineering environment.

  • Self-motivated with a strong work ethic.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.

  • Willingness to learn new technologies and take on new responsibilities.

Work Environment

This is a fully onsite position in Orlando, FL, Monday through Friday. The role involves hands-on laboratory work, prototype development, testing, equipment setup, data collection, and collaboration with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
