Embedded Systems Engineer - ADV
Location: Indianapolis, IN, 46204 | Onsite | Monday-Friday, 9AM-5PM EST
About the Role
Join an industry-leading team shaping the future of advanced embedded and electro-mechanical HVAC systems. As a Senior Embedded Systems Engineer, you will manage complex projects across the full product lifecycle, collaborating globally to deliver robust, connected solutions. Your expertise will ensure high-performance, quality-driven, and regulatory-compliant products while driving innovation and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities
- Define and manage system and subsystem requirements in line with INCOSE systems engineering principles.
- Develop and maintain functional and interface specifications for control systems, sensors, and communication interfaces.
- Document system modes, states, and control logic for diverse operating scenarios.
- Ensure requirements are clear, traceable, and verifiable through structured reviews and validation.
- Collaborate across hardware, software, and validation teams to align and integrate design intent.
- Oversee requirement traceability, issue tracking, and change management using JIRA and Confluence.
- Support integration and validation through functional testing, troubleshooting, and issue resolution.
- Contribute to EOL testing, commissioning, and diagnostic strategies for production and field support.
- Participate in technical and design reviews to ensure compliance and quality.
- Promote continuous improvement of systems engineering practices and templates.
Required Skills and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical, or Systems Engineering
- 9-15 years of relevant experience in systems engineering for embedded, connected, or electro-mechanical products
- Strong knowledge of embedded control systems and real-time computing constraints
- Proficiency in systems engineering, lifecycle management, functional decomposition, and interface management
- Proven experience authoring and maintaining system-level requirements and specifications
- Hands-on experience with engineering documentation and requirements management tools
Preferred Skills
- Master's degree in a relevant engineering discipline
- Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail
- Excellent communication skills for effective cross-functional collaboration
- Working knowledge of communication protocols: CAN, RS-485, BLE, Ethernet, Wi-Fi
- Familiarity with HVAC controls, energy management, or smart home systems
- Exposure to connected product ecosystems, OTA updates, and telemetry frameworks
- Understanding of INCOSE SE Handbook, ISO 15288, and Model-Based Systems Engineering
