Position Overview: Firmware Engineer
We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Firmware Engineer to join our skilled cross-functional product development team in Shakopee, Minnesota. This pivotal role focuses on developing the next generation of ultra high vacuum controller systems, collaborating closely with electrical, firmware, and mechanical engineering colleagues.
The ideal candidate will exhibit a methodical and detail-oriented approach to firmware development, embracing best practices in embedded software architecture and demonstrating proficiency in maintaining and enhancing legacy codebases. This role demands both strong technical skills and a proactive attitude toward problem-solving within a fast-paced engineering environment.
Key Responsibilities
  • Detailing requirements, firmware implementation, integration, and some level of system testing in Gamma Vacuum controllers and pumps
  • Developing and designing multi-threaded Embedded application for Digital controllers
  • Partnership with hardware engineers developing cohesive, cost-effective embedded solutions for digital controllers
  • Quickly understanding legacy products development and their working principles
  • Developing test suites for validation and testing
  • Maintenance and management of source code
  • Flexible to oversee hands-on testing using real equipment (Vacuum controllers, UHV Ion pumps, various communication connections) in a lab environment
  • Working as part of a team to deliver on-time & right-first-time solutions
  • Assisting in the development, maintenance, and execution of automated tests
Qualifications and Experience
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering or Computer Engineering
  • 5+ yrs of industry experience
  • Proficiency in Programming languages such as C, C++
  • Proficiency utilizing code repositories to manage change (GIT, Bitbucket or similar)
  • Experience and knowledge in embedded controls and real time data processing in Embedded Systems
  • Experience with Ethernet, RS232 or RS485 communication interfaces
  • Desired experience in Python, VBA scripting languages to write test scripts for Engineering validation
  • Desired experience utilizing serial tools like Tera Term, Putty or similar
  • Desired experience and knowledge in device driver development for EEPROM, SPI, I2C, CAN, SERIAL, FLASH devices
  • Desired familiarity with various Operating systems such as FreeRTOS, uC/OS or similar
  • Has a proactive, self-motivated approach to solving problems
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work closely with Hardware and SQA team members as well as small teams to complete tasks
