Common Search/ComparisonYesYes

The Embedded System Validation Engineer focuses on validating both hardware and software components of embedded systems, ensuring overall system functionality. In contrast, the Firmware Test Engineer primarily tests the firmware or software running on embedded devices. While both roles require similar technical skills and certifications, their focus areas differ: validation of entire systems versus software-specific testing.

What are Embedded System Validation Engineers?

Embedded System Validation Engineers are professionals responsible for testing and verifying that embedded systems—specialized computing systems within larger devices—function correctly and meet design specifications. They develop and execute validation plans, create test cases, and use debugging tools to identify hardware and software issues. Their work ensures the reliability, safety, and performance of products such as automotive systems, medical devices, and consumer electronics. Collaboration with design and development teams is crucial to address any detected issues before product release.

What are some common challenges faced by Embedded System Validation Engineers during product testing?

Embedded System Validation Engineers often encounter challenges such as debugging complex hardware-software interactions, managing limited access to prototypes, and ensuring thorough test coverage across various hardware configurations. Collaborating closely with firmware developers and hardware designers is essential to identify and resolve issues efficiently. Additionally, staying updated with new validation tools and methodologies can be necessary to address evolving technology and product requirements.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Embedded System Validation Engineer, and why are they important?

To excel as an Embedded System Validation Engineer, a strong background in embedded systems, electronics, and programming languages like C/C++ is essential, typically supported by a degree in electrical engineering or a related field. Familiarity with validation tools, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, version control systems, and test automation frameworks is commonly required. Analytical thinking, problem-solving, and effective communication are vital soft skills for diagnosing complex issues and collaborating with cross-functional teams. These abilities ensure comprehensive system validation, high product quality, and successful integration in complex hardware-software environments.

The achievers and courageous challenge-crushers we seek, have the following characteristics and skills

About the Role

The Senior Validation Engineer is responsible for executing and supporting end-to-end validation activities for battery systems, charging cases, and peripheral accessories across product lines. This role involves hands-on testing, failure analysis, and close collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure that products meet the highest standards of performance, reliability, safety, and regulatory compliance. The ideal candidate combines strong technical skills in hardware/software validation with a passion for delivering high-quality consumer electronics.

What You will Do:

  • Author, own, and execute validation test plans, test specifications, and coverage matrices for battery, charging case, and accessory subsystems — from prototype through mass production.
Define and refine validation methodologies, test strategies, and coverage criteria.
  • Perform system-level hardware and software testing, including performance benchmarking, reliability stress testing, thermal characterization, and safety/regulatory compliance testing.
  • Set up and maintain test environments, fixtures, and instrumentation.
Create comprehensive documentation to enable replication of test environments across different geographical locations.
  • Identify, reproduce, and document hardware and software defects using defect tracking tools (e.g., JIRA).
Lead root cause analysis and drive corrective actions for validation failures and field escapes, collaborating with hardware, firmware, mechanical, and product design engineering teams.
  • Develop and maintain test automation scripts (Python or similar) to improve test efficiency and repeatability.
  • Drive improvements in test automation frameworks and CI/CD integration for hardware testing.
  • Document test results, analyze data, and generate clear validation reports.
  • Provide data-driven status updates to engineering management and program leadership.
  • Represent the validation team in design reviews and program milestone discussions.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Systems Engineering, Product Design, Operations, and enablement teams.
  • Provide technical mentorship and guidance to junior validation engineers.

Work Experience

What You Will Bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Computer Science, or a related field. Master's preferred.
  • Experience with battery system validation, charging systems, or power management testing.
  • Familiarity with wearable and/or hearable product validation.
  • 3 to 5+ years of experience in hardware/software validation or test engineering in consumer electronics or related industry.
  • Proven ability to author validation plans, test specifications, and coverage matrices.
  • Strong experience with root cause analysis techniques and corrective action processes.
  • Proficiency in test automation using Python or similar scripting languages.
  • Experience with Android or iOS mobile platform testing and debugging tools (e.g., ADB, RTOS etc ).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Track record of delivering validation programs in high-volume consumer electronics environments.
  • Experience with automation framework development and CI/CD integration for hardware testing.
  • Knowledge of battery safety standards and regulatory requirements (e.g., IEC 62133, UN 38.3, UL 2054).
  • Experience with thermal testing, environmental stress screening, and reliability testing (HALT/HASS).
  • Hands-on experience with lab instrumentation — power analyzers, oscilloscopes, data acquisition systems, environmental chambers.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present technical findings to cross-functional audiences.
    Soft Skills:
  • Exceptional Communication
  • Stakeholder Management & Client Engagement
  • Proactive
