What is embedded payments?

Embedded payments refer to the seamless integration of payment processing capabilities directly into software platforms, apps, or websites, allowing users to make transactions without leaving the environment they’re in. This technology streamlines the payment experience for both businesses and customers by reducing friction and automating payment flows. It is commonly used in e-commerce platforms, ride-sharing apps, and marketplaces, enabling instant and secure transactions. Embedded payments help businesses enhance user experience and can open up new revenue streams by offering value-added financial services.

To excel in Embedded Payments, you need a solid understanding of payment processing, financial compliance, and software integration, typically supported by a background in finance, computer science, or related fields. Familiarity with APIs, PCI DSS compliance, and payment gateway platforms like Stripe or Adyen is often required. Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving, and effective communication skills help professionals navigate complex integrations and collaborate with cross-functional teams. These skills are essential to ensure secure, seamless payment experiences that meet regulatory standards and drive business growth.

Job description

Company Overview

We are seeking a Staff QA Engineer III to own quality across multiple teams at Versitech. This role is ideal for an experienced QA leader who can make teams more effective at building quality software by defining processes, establishing standards, and driving shift-left testing practices. You will reduce friction between QA, Product, and Engineering while identifying and fixing systemic quality issues at their root causes.

At VersiTech, we go beyond the traditional boundaries of a tech company to provide payment and point-of-sale technologies that help businesses increase their profitability, run efficiently, and grow with confidence. We are innovators at heart, problem-solvers in action, and growth partners in spirit. In every solution we create and every service we offer, our ethos is clear: technology should be advanced, accessible, and easy to use. We have a passion for delivering technology-focused products and services that are built on speed, affordability, and reliability so that every business we serve enjoys a consistent experience with a trusted ally. Our two product lines, BOLD Integrated Payments and Tonic POS Software can be deployed together for a unified end-to-end experience or used independently for maximum flexibility.

Listening first, building lasting relationships, and delivering measurable outcomes for our partners and merchants are central to how we operate as an organization.

Who We Are

We operate under a rapidly growing and widely accepted business philosophy called “EOS” (Entrepreneurial Operating System). In learning to utilize EOS, you will have the ability to drive growth and be an empowered decision maker, something that you can’t get in large, slow-moving organizations.

As we grow, we are intentional about protecting our small-company spirit: staying agile, taking ownership, and maintaining strong relationships. We strive to live our values every day and in every way. We believe culture is built through the habits we practice: Value + Habit = Culture, and we are looking for others who feel the same way:

  • We are ALL IN: We are committing wholeheartedly to a clear vision. Mission first and team always by: following through, owning outcomes, and finishing what we start for the success of ALL involved: our employees, our partners, our vendors, our communities, and our customers.
  • We DARE TO BE DIFFERENT: We embrace our entrepreneurial DNA and small-company spirit as we scale, taking responsibility as first movers, simplifying the complex, and maintaining a culture of fun and approachability while prioritizing our partners and team members first.
  • We are HUMAN: We are grounded in accountability and genuineness, we build strong relationships by listening to understand, communicating clearly, speaking truth with care, and respecting different perspectives with grace as we grow.
How will you make an impact in this role?

As Staff QA Engineer, you will operate as a force multiplier for quality across the organization. You define QA processes that multiple teams adopt, establish standards for automation and coverage, and ensure that quality is embedded in the development lifecycle rather than being a separate phase. Teams will become less reliant on QA as a last gate because you've helped them build quality in from the start.

You will report to the Quality Assurance Manager, Alan Piche.

What will you be doing on a day-to-day basis? Key Responsibilities Cross-Team Quality Leadership
  • Define QA processes, standards, and best practices across multiple teams
  • Establish standards for automation coverage, test quality, and release readiness
  • Drive consistency in how teams approach testing while allowing flexibility for different contexts
  • Identify and address systemic quality issues that affect multiple teams or products
Shift-Left Testing Practices
  • Drive shift-left testing where quality is built in during development, not just tested after
  • Work with Engineering to embed testability, observability, and quality practices into development workflows
  • Reduce reliance on QA as a final gate by empowering teams to catch issues earlier
  • Foster a culture where everyone owns quality, not just the QA team
Process & Friction Reduction
  • Reduce friction between QA, Product, and Engineering through better processes and communication
  • Establish clear handoff points, acceptance criteria standards, and definition of done
  • Streamline QA workflows to prevent bottlenecks and delays
  • Make testing more efficient without sacrificing coverage or quality
Automation Strategy & Tooling
  • Define automation strategy across teams, identifying where automation provides the most value
  • Establish frameworks, patterns, and tooling that teams can adopt for automated testing
  • Ensure automation efforts are focused on high-value areas rather than automating everything
  • Balance automation investment with manual testing where human judgment is needed
Mentorship & Quality Culture
  • Mentor Senior and mid-level QA engineers, helping them grow into quality leadership roles
  • Build a culture where regression bugs and repeated issues are unacceptable
  • Share knowledge broadly through documentation, training, and quality reviews
  • Set the standard for quality excellence across the organization
You know you are successful when:
  • Teams are no longer relying on QA as a last gate
  • Regression bugs and repeated issues significantly decrease
  • QA is embedded in the development lifecycle, not a separate phase
  • Delivery becomes smoother across teams
Top Candidates will demonstrate the following: Minimum Qualifications
  • 8+ years of experience in software QA with progression into quality leadership
  • Proven ability to make multiple teams more effective at building quality software
  • Deep expertise in both manual and automated testing methodologies
  • Track record of defining QA processes and standards that teams successfully adopt
  • Experience driving shift-left testing practices and embedding quality into development workflows
  • Strong understanding of CI/CD, test automation frameworks, and modern QA tooling
  • Excellent communication skills with ability to influence without direct authority
  • Demonstrated impact reducing systemic quality issues and improving delivery smoothness
  • Experience mentoring and developing QA engineers
  • Proven success operating in remote or distributed organizational environments
Preferred Qualifications
  • Deep expertise in automation frameworks (Playwright, Cypress, Selenium, Appium, API testing)
  • Experience establishing QA practices across multiple products or platforms
  • Background in POS systems, SaaS platforms, or complex distributed systems
  • Familiarity with observability tools and production monitoring for quality feedback
  • Experience with performance testing, security testing, or other specialized testing areas
  • Strong programming skills in Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, or Python
  • Track record of improving quality metrics and reducing production incidents
  • ISTQB Expert certification or equivalent expertise
Technical Environment

You'll be working with:

  • Applications: Front-of-house and back-of-house Tonic POS systems across multiple teams
  • Backend: Java/Spring Boot, MySQL, distributed systems
  • Frontend: Angular, mobile applications
  • Automation: Playwright, Selenium, API frameworks, CI/CD integration
  • Tools: TestRail, Jira, Git, Jenkins, CloudWatch, performance testing tools

Architecture: Supporting modernization from monolithic to distributed systems

The hours of operation for this role will fall within 8 am – 6 pm EST.

This is a hybrid role with expectations of being in office at our Sandy Springs location 3 days per week. There is no expectations of travel.
