Embedded Networking information

What is embedded networking?

Embedded networking refers to the integration of networking capabilities into embedded systems—specialized computing devices designed to perform dedicated functions. These systems often include hardware and software components that enable communication with other devices or networks, such as through Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth. Embedded networking is essential in applications like industrial automation, automotive systems, IoT devices, and consumer electronics, allowing devices to share data and operate collaboratively. Professionals in this field design, develop, and troubleshoot the protocols and interfaces that enable reliable network communication within resource-constrained environments.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an embedded networking engineer?

To thrive as an Embedded Networking Engineer, you need a strong background in embedded systems, C/C++ programming, and network protocols such as TCP/IP, often supported by a degree in computer engineering or related field. Familiarity with real-time operating systems (RTOS), network analyzers, and tools like Wireshark or Ethernet protocol stacks is commonly required. Problem-solving ability, attention to detail, and effective teamwork are crucial soft skills for this role. These skills ensure robust, secure, and efficient communication between embedded devices, which is vital for the reliability of modern connected systems.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working in embedded networking, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in embedded networking often encounter challenges such as resource constraints (limited memory and processing power), ensuring real-time performance, and maintaining robust security on devices with minimal overhead. Additionally, integrating new protocols or supporting interoperability with legacy systems can be complex. Addressing these challenges typically involves using efficient coding practices, thorough testing, and staying current with industry standards and security best practices. Collaboration with hardware engineers and firmware developers is also crucial to ensure seamless integration and reliable operation.

What is the difference between Embedded Networking vs Network Engineer?

AspectEmbedded Networking
Required CredentialsTypically includes certifications like Cisco CCNA, CompTIA Network+, and relevant hardware/software knowledge.
Work EnvironmentPrimarily embedded systems, IoT devices, and specialized hardware in manufacturing, automotive, or consumer electronics.
Employer & Industry UsageUsed by electronics manufacturers, IoT companies, and embedded systems developers.
Comparison SummaryEmbedded Networking focuses on integrating network connectivity into embedded devices and systems, requiring specialized hardware and firmware skills. Network Engineers design, implement, and manage broader network infrastructures across organizations. While both roles involve networking concepts, Embedded Networking is more specialized towards embedded systems, whereas Network Engineers handle larger-scale network architecture and management.

Job description

About Us:

Logisnext Americas Inc. has supported customers for more than 100 years as a technology-driven forklift manufacturer. In addition to being a forklift manufacturer, we are also a total solutions provider offering scalable products and services from material handling and automation to extensive fleet support.

About the role:

As a Senior Embedded Software Engineer, you will serve as the technical and strategic owner for embedded software to develop Connected and ADAS solutions within emerging technology systems in our forklift portfolio. This role blends deep technical execution along with developing, integrating and validating embedded software for telematics, LiDAR, AI camera, and UltraWide Band (UWB) products coupled with product management responsibilities. Lead software development, integration, and releases while shaping product roadmaps. Drive supplier and cross-functional alignment to deliver connected solutions that meet business, market, and quality objectives. Architect software solutions and apply SIL/HIL, Model-in-the-Loop, and advanced testing methods to validate system performance.

What you will do:

  • Product Lifecycle & Strategy (Embedded Software Focus):
    • Define the embedded software vision, roadmap, and technical strategy for connected solutions components you own. Manage the end-to-end software release process, including branching strategies, documentation, and validation alignment while adhering to industry standards
  • System Integration & Architecture:
    • Lead embedded software architecture and integration for telematics, LiDAR, AI cameras, and UWB. Serve as the subject matter expert (SME) on how embedded software interacts with the forklift’s core control systems and sensors.
  • Supplier & Stakeholder Management:
    •  Act as the primary technical point of contact for software and electronics suppliers. Conduct technical reviews, support RFQs, and ensure supplier deliverables meet quality and cost targets
  • Advanced Validation & Compliance:
    •  Lead systemlevel software validation (SIL/HIL). Support prototype builds and field trials, ensuring embedded software meets performance requirements, reliability, and safety considerations
  • Current Product Management:
    •  Track, troubleshoot, and resolve embedded software issues in production products, implementing corrective actions to improve robustness and maintainability

When & Where:

  • Hybrid Work Schedule in office 3 days a week
  • 5-10% domestic travel

What you need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
  • 7+ years of embedded software engineering experience with a proven track record of releasing products in an OEM environment
  • Demonstrated experience managing embedded software products from concept through end-of-life (EOL), including feature prioritization and quality
  • Proficiency with software configuration management and lifecycle tools (e.g., Git, CI/CD pipelines, ticketing systems)
  • Experience developing automated test scripts and setting up automation frameworks to verify software and feature functionality
  • Working knowledge of embedded software engineering best practices, software architecture, and real-time control systems
  • Experience with vehicle communication protocols-CAN, ability to analyze data, logs using relevant tools like CANAnalyzer, PCAN & Network analyzer
  • Hands-on experience with software debugging and test instruments, including debuggers, logic analyzers, and protocol analyzers

What would be nice to have:

  • Master's degree in computer engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field. (preferred)
