Job description

Position Summary

The Electrical Engineer I – Embedded Hardware will support the design, development, testing, and integration of embedded electronic systems for unmanned maritime and sensor platform applications. This role is part of a collaborative engineering team and contributes to delivering reliable, high-performance systems in demanding operational environments.

This is a position suited for a motivated engineer who is eager to learn, hands-on, and capable of supporting technical efforts across multiple stages of development.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist with schematic capture and PCB layout using KiCad, Altium, Fusion 360, or similar ECAD tools
  • Support development of embedded electronics and interface boards
  • Assist with component selection, BOM generation, and documentation updates
  • Perform board bring-up, bench testing, and debugging activities
  • Support integration of sensors, GPS receivers, radios, Ethernet devices, and embedded computer systems
  • Assist with cable and connector verification
  • Participate in hardware design reviews and troubleshooting sessions
  • Support prototype assembly and lab testing
  • Document test results, configurations, and engineering changes
  • Assist with environmental and field-testing activities as needed

Required Qualifications

  • BS in Electrical Engineering or related field
  • Internship, academic project, or co-op experience in electronics design
  • Familiarity with embedded hardware systems
  • Interest in robotics, maritime systems, autonomous systems, or defense technologies
  • Strong willingness to learn in a fast-paced engineering environment
  • Basic analog and digital circuit knowledge
  • Familiarity with PCB design tools
  • Experience with lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, and power supplies
  • Understanding of communication protocols such as UART, CAN, SPI, a I2C, or Ethernet
  • Basic soldering and hardware troubleshooting skills
  • Exposure to embedded systems or microcontrollers

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  • Must be able to walk, stand, and navigate large indoor and outdoor facilities for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move materials and equipment weighing up to 25 lbs on a regular basis.
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required in designated areas or when performing specific tasks, in accordance with safety protocols and company policy.
  • May be required to climb ladders, stoop, kneel, or crouch during inspections, maintenance walk-throughs, or emergency response situations.
  • Regular exposure to facility operations including noise, dust, temperature fluctuations, and industrial equipment.
  • Occasional off-hours or weekend work required for emergency facility responses or projects as needed
  • Requires frequent use of a computer and other standard office equipment for documentation, communication, and coordination tasks.
