What are some common challenges professionals face when working in Embedded Finance roles?

Professionals in Embedded Finance often navigate challenges such as integrating financial services seamlessly into non-financial platforms, ensuring compliance with complex regulations, and maintaining robust data security. Collaboration across teams—like product, engineering, and compliance—is essential to deliver a smooth user experience while adhering to legal standards. Staying current with evolving fintech trends and regulatory changes is also key, as these can significantly impact product development and timelines.

What is embedded finance?

Embedded finance refers to the integration of financial services such as payments, lending, insurance, or investments into non-financial platforms or products. This means that companies outside of traditional banking can offer financial services directly to their customers through their own apps or websites. Examples include ride-sharing apps that offer in-app payments, e-commerce sites providing 'buy now, pay later' options, or retail brands offering branded credit cards. Embedded finance streamlines the customer experience by making financial transactions seamless and convenient within everyday digital interactions.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Embedded Finance professional, and why are they important?

To thrive in Embedded Finance, you need a strong background in finance, fintech, and software development, often supported by degrees in finance, computer science, or related fields. Familiarity with APIs, payment processing platforms, compliance systems, and certifications such as CFA or relevant fintech credentials is highly valuable. Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication are essential soft skills for integrating financial solutions across industries. These competencies are crucial to ensure secure, innovative, and seamless financial services within non-financial platforms.

Position: FP&A Operations Manager
Location: Onsite in Kentwood, MI
Salary: 100,000-115,000
The FP&A Operations Manager Opportunity

We are partnering with a client that is scaling revenue and professionalizing its finance organization. This is a newly created FP&A role with high visibility to executive leadership and ownership.

This individual will build the FP&A function from the ground up, owning forecasting, margin analytics, board‑level reporting, and operational finance support. The role is highly hands‑on and embedded with operations; regular plant‑floor engagement is expected.

This is not a maintenance role. The right candidate is energized by building structure, models, and reporting where little formal FP&A infrastructure exists today.

Key Responsibilities for FP&A Operations Manager
  • Own and maintain a 13‑week rolling P&L forecast, refreshed weekly and used for cash management and lender/sponsor reporting
  • Build and maintain customer‑level P&Ls and SKU‑level margin realization analysis, with defensible allocation methodologies
  • Provide pricing and quote support, including margin floor enforcement and cost build‑ups for new commercial opportunities
  • Lead monthly P&L variance analysis and commentary for executive and board reporting (drivers, not deltas)
  • Design and run a bottom‑up annual budget process, including multiple scenarios (base, upside, downside)
  • Partner with Operations on capacity utilization, manufacturing efficiency, and capital investment modeling
  • Serve as a thought partner to the Controller, ensuring clean handoff from close to forecast and forward‑looking insights
  • Produce sponsor‑ready analysis that stands on its own without heavy translation from leadership
Qualifications FP&A Operations Manager
  • 5–8+ years of progressive experience in FP&A or operational finance within a manufacturing environment
  • Strong preference for experience in contract manufacturing, co‑manufacturing, private label, or B2B industrial manufacturing
  • Demonstrated success building driver‑based forecasts and financial models from scratch
  • Hands‑on knowledge of standard costing, manufacturing variances, BOMs, labor/overhead absorption, yield, and throughput
  • Experience working in or supporting a private‑equity‑backed business strongly preferred
  • ERP experience required (NetSuite strongly preferred); plant‑floor data systems a plus
  • Advanced Excel required; Power BI, Power Query, SQL, or Python are pluses
