Job Title: Embedded Software Engineer (Jr.-Mid Levels)
Department: Engineering
Reports To: Director of Engineering
Job Summary
Vanteon is openly seeking applicants for Embedded Software Engineer positions. Based on the applicant's level of experience, they may be classified as a Junior-level. In general, this role is responsible for performing embedded software design and implementation with the guidance of more senior staff.
Duties/Responsibilities
The following is a list of expected duties to be involved with the position. It is not fully inclusive, and additional ones may be assigned as determined by management:
  • Support development of Requirement Specifications
  • Create other technical documentation, including design documents and development notes.
  • Design and implement embedded software solutions, device drivers, and board support packages
  • Provide project estimates and technical support for the Sales Process
  • Rapidly understand and become proficient with existing code bases
  • Collaborate with hardware and other engineers in design and integration efforts.

Required Specialized Skills/Knowledge
  • Embedded systems software for real-time bare-metal, RTOSs, and embedded Linux based systems.
  • Multi-threaded programming, distributed design, device driver development, hardware level diagnostics, BIOS / Bootloader development and configuration, and interrupt handling.
  • Proficient with C/C++ and able to work at the assembly level for embedded processors.
  • Experience using embedded tools such as compilers, debuggers, ICE, Emulators
  • Hardware/software interface design experience (SPI, I2C, LVDS, DMA, etc.)
  • Proven track record of successful product completion and deployment
  • Excellent writing, analytical, and verbal communication skills
  • Highly motivated, well-organized self-starter

Desired Skills
  • Linux kernel driver and application software development
  • Linux BSP bring-up on custom hardware platforms
  • FPGA HDL and block design familiarity
  • Experience with Python for automated test fixturing
  • Knowledge of C/C++ and object-oriented design approaches to reusable software systems design
  • Knowledge of common CI/CD tools and methodologies.
  • Experience with UML design modeling and tools
  • Experience with common build management systems (make, etc.) and git version control systems.

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or Software Engineering
  • Preference to those with an MS and/or coop experience
  • 1-5 years of experience in embedded software development

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Be able to perform low to moderately strenuous physical activities requiring standing, walking, and reaching.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.

Compensation Range
A candidate's compensation will depend heavily on their skills and experience and will include a very competitive benefits package. Position is eligible for a variety of bonuses, including client referrals, employee referrals, publications, and extra effort.
The estimated range for specific positions associated with this job posting is:
  • Junior Engineer - $80,000 to $95,000
  • Engineer - $90,000 to $105,000
  • Senior Engineer - $100,000 to $120,000 (for those applicants with significant experience)
