Job description

Title: Software Verification Engineer III

Location: St. Paul, MN

Duration: 7 Months

100% Onsite

Summary

We are seeking a Contract Hardware / Firmware Verification & Test Engineer to support verification and validation activities across embedded hardware, firmware, and software products. This role is ideal for someone with a testing and verification mindset who enjoys creating test methods, executing test plans, analyzing results, improving requirements, and helping ensure overall product quality.

The successful candidate will work closely with hardware, firmware, systems, and quality engineering teams throughout the product development lifecycle. This position involves hands-on testing, issue investigation, documentation, and support of test automation efforts. Experience with Python automation and/or Squish GUI automation is highly desirable.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, document, and execute hardware, firmware, and software verification test methods and test cases.
  • Create verification plans and ensure coverage of product requirements.
  • Assist in drafting, reviewing, and improving engineering requirements with a focus on clarity, completeness, and testability.
  • Perform system-level, integration, and regression testing.
  • Analyze test results and investigate failures to support root cause analysis and defect resolution.
  • Document verification activities, test results, issues, and recommendations.
  • Track and verify defect fixes throughout the development cycle.
  • Support development and maintenance of automated test solutions using Python.
  • Support GUI automation efforts using Squish or similar automation tools.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to ensure product quality and compliance.

  • Technical background in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Engineering Technology, or related discipline.
  • Strong interest in product verification, validation, testing, and quality.
  • Ability to develop and execute structured test procedures.
  • Ability to read, understand, and review technical requirements and specifications.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to document work clearly and thoroughly.

Preferred

  • Python scripting or automation experience.
  • Squish GUI automation experience.
  • Experience developing test cases, test methods, or verification procedures.
  • Familiarity with embedded systems and hardware/firmware interaction.
  • Experience using laboratory equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, power supplies, and digital multimeters.
  • Familiarity with communication interfaces such as UART, SPI, I2C, USB, CAN, or Ethernet.
  • Experience with defect tracking and requirements management tools (Jira, Azure DevOps, Polarion, DOORS, Jama, etc.).
  • Exposure to automated testing, regression testing, or CI/CD environments.
  • Detail-oriented and organized.
  • Curious, hands-on, and eager to learn.
  • Comfortable working in a laboratory and development environment.
  • Able to work independently while collaborating across multiple engineering disciplines.
  • Interested in growing skills in verification, validation, requirements development, and automation.
