Job description

Summary/Objective
The Spring Grove Funeral Homes is looking for an embalmer to join our centralized care center team, serving over 2000 families per year across nine locations here in Cincinnati.
Essential Functions

  • Assisting Funeral Directors and Families

Primary Duties:
Embalmer – Spring Grove Funeral Home
  • Conduct embalming, all forms of decedent preparation, and restoration with expertise and respect.
  • Perform decedent transportation, including first calls, airport transport, and deliveries to satellite locations.
  • Assist funeral directors and families with ritual washings, identification viewings, and family-involved body preparations.
  • Assist in decedent check-ins, including fingerprinting, identification photos, receipt and securing of personal effects, and uploading of paperwork into decedent tracking software.
  • Prepare decedents for cremation, including removal of pacemakers.
  • Receive products and materials from vendors, shipping companies, and other suppliers.
  • Care for decedents in a respectful and confidential manner while performing a variety of tasks in the care center.
  • Ensure all aspects of a safe workplace are followed, including universal precautions.
  • Participate and assist with ongoing training for mortuary students and apprentices. Actively support professional learning and development.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned by management.
Work Environment
This position operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, printers and fax machines.
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to talk and/or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit; stand; walk; and reach with hands and arms. Required to lift over 75 pounds.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time Exempt position. Business days and hours of work are:
Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Working every fourth weekend
Travel
Local travel maybe required between campuses for support.
Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Experience
  1. Hold an Ohio Funeral Directors and Embalmer’s license or be able to reciprocate to obtain an Embalmer’s license.
  2. 3-5 years’ experience as an Embalmer.
  3. High level of compassion and integrity.
  4. Ability to manage distressing and stressful situations with sensitivity and care.
  5. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  6. Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  7. Thorough understanding of methods for comforting people during grief.
  8. Technologically competent and able to pick up new software programs quickly. Thorough understanding of Teams, Microsoft, SharePoint, and Passare helpful.
  9. Acceptable driving record.
  10. Displays a “Customer First” attitude.
