Position Overview
Greenville ISD is seeking a dependable and student-focused 1st Grade Instructional Aide to support classroom instruction and daily operations at Lamar Elementary. This position assists the classroom teacher in creating a positive, structured, and engaging learning environment for young learners.
Primary Purpose
Assist the classroom teacher with instructional support, classroom management, and administrative tasks to promote student success in accordance with district and campus expectations.
Qualifications
Education / Certification:
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Ability to obtain a Texas Educational Aide Certificate (certification may be obtained through the District)
  • Completion of the ParaSkills Course through STEDI.org (course will be purchased by the District)

Special Knowledge / Skills:
  • Ability to work effectively with young children
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to follow directions and work collaboratively with staff
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism

Experience:
  • Experience working with elementary-aged children preferred

Major Responsibilities and Duties
Instructional Support
  • Assist the teacher with preparing instructional materials and classroom activities
  • Work with individual students or small groups to reinforce reading, writing, and math skills
  • Support implementation of classroom routines and learning centers
  • Assist with administering and scoring assignments or assessments as directed

Student Supervision & Support
  • Supervise students during classroom activities, transitions, lunch, recess, and arrival/dismissal as assigned
  • Reinforce classroom expectations and positive behavior
  • Monitor student progress and communicate concerns to the teacher

Classroom & Administrative Support
  • Help maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming classroom environment
  • Assist with inventory, copying, filing, and other clerical tasks
  • Provide support to substitute teachers as needed

Professional Responsibilities
  • Participate in staff development and campus meetings as assigned
  • Support campus events and activities as needed

Working Conditions
Physical Demands:
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, and light lifting of classroom materials

Mental Demands:
  • Ability to maintain emotional control and patience in a busy elementary setting
