Job Posting: Elementary School Secretary

Position Title: Elementary School Secretary

Location: Western Wayne Elementary

Position Type: Full-Time, 10-Month Position

Reports To: Building Principal

Position Summary

Western Wayne Schools is seeking a dependable, organized, and professional individual to serve as the Elementary School Secretary. This position plays an important role in the daily operation of the school by providing administrative support to the principal, staff, students, and families while maintaining an efficient and welcoming front office.

The successful candidate will possess excellent communication and organizational skills, maintain confidentiality, and be able to manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced school environment.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Greet students, parents, staff, and visitors in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Answer and direct telephone calls and respond to general inquiries.
  • Maintain student attendance records and other student information.
  • Prepare correspondence, reports, forms, and other documents as requested.
  • Maintain accurate student files and office records.
  • Assist with student enrollment, withdrawals, and records requests.
  • Operate standard office equipment and maintain office supplies.
  • Utilize school software programs and Microsoft Office applications for data entry and record keeping.
  • Assist with school communications, announcements, and correspondence to families.
  • Follow visitor management and building security procedures.
  • Work collaboratively with administrators, teachers, the school nurse, and district staff to support daily operations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the principal.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or additional coursework is preferred.
  • Previous administrative or secretarial experience required; experience in a school setting is preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
  • Ability to learn and effectively use student information and other district software systems.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work efficiently in a busy office environment.
  • Must successfully complete all required background checks.
