Boys & Girls Clubs of Weld County is seeking a Youth Mental/Behavioral Health Intern to support youth mental and behavioral health, social-emotional learning, trauma-informed care, and positive youth development across Club sites.
This internship is a strong fit for students in social work, counseling, psychology, sociology, human services, education, occupational therapy, juvenile criminal justice, or related fields who are interested in gaining hands-on experience in a nonprofit, youth-serving environment. Interns may support elementary, middle school, and/or high school youth depending on site needs, schedule, and internship requirements.
Compensation
This is an unpaid internship intended to meet academic, practicum, or field placement requirements. Boys & Girls Clubs of Weld County will provide supervision, training, hands-on learning opportunities, and required documentation in coordination with the intern's educational program.
Internship Overview
This internship helps provide relationship-based mental health and social-emotional support within the Club setting. Interns may assist with individual youth check-ins, small SEL groups, regulation spaces, coping skill development, documentation, staff collaboration, and trauma-informed programming.
Responsibilities
Interns may support:
Individual youth check-ins and supportive conversations
Small social-emotional learning groups
Calming rooms, regulation stations, calming carts, and coping tools
Youth documentation, follow-up notes, and support planning
Staff communication around youth needs, patterns, and safety concerns
Trauma-informed, strengths-based, and culturally responsive youth support
Restorative conversations, conflict resolution, and re-entry support
Program materials such as SEL activities, coping tools, handouts, and group outlines
Family support, resource navigation, program evaluation, or community partnership projects as appropriate
Qualifications
Ideal candidates will:
Be enrolled in a relevant graduate or undergraduate program
Have interest in youth mental health, trauma-informed care, and positive youth development
Have direct or transferable experience working with children, teens, families, or community programs
Demonstrate professionalism, dependability, communication skills, and healthy boundaries
Be open to supervision, feedback, and reflective practice
Maintain confidentiality and follow mandated reporting requirements
Complete all required screening, onboarding, and background check processes
Learning Opportunities
Interns may gain experience in youth mental health support, SEL facilitation, documentation, ethical decision-making, de-escalation, co-regulation, restorative practices, staff consultation, regulation spaces, group facilitation, nonprofit programming, and community-based social work or counseling practice.
Time Commitment
Schedule and hours vary based on school requirements, site availability, and program needs. Internship opportunities may be available during the school year, summer, or academic semester depending on capacity.
