General Statement of Duties
The Elementary Education Instructor/Advisor is responsible for providing high-quality instruction in Elementary Education courses while supporting student success through academic advising, curriculum development, assessment, and transfer planning. This position collaborates with faculty, staff, school districts, universities, and community partners to strengthen the Elementary Education program and ensure students are prepared for successful transfer into bachelor's degree programs. The instructor actively participates in accreditation, institutional assessment, committee work, and other initiatives that support the mission, vision, and strategic goals of Blackfeet Community College.
Specific Area of Duties
· Teach a minimum of 12–15 credit hours per semester in accordance with College workload policy.
· Provide instruction during scheduled classes based on the students needs Monday and Thursday evening classes and maintain availability for assigned daytime responsibilities.
· Develop, revise, and assess curriculum to ensure courses remain current and meet transfer, accreditation, and program standards.
· Prepare and maintain current course syllabi, student learning outcomes, instructional materials, and assessment plans.
· Maintain regularly scheduled office hours and provide academic advising and mentoring to students pursuing Elementary Education degrees.
· Assist students with educational planning, transfer requirements, and degree completion.
· Collaborate with the University of Montana Western and other transfer institutions to strengthen articulation agreements and student transfer opportunities.
· Participate in curriculum committee meetings, departmental meetings, faculty meetings, and institutional committees.
· Participate in annual program review, institutional assessment, accreditation activities, and Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU) reporting requirements.
· Maintain accurate attendance, grading, advising, and student records in compliance with FERPA and College policies.
· Coordinate textbook selections and instructional materials for assigned courses.
· Assist with course scheduling and recommend adjunct faculty as needed.
· Participate in recruitment, retention, and student success initiatives.
· Build and maintain collaborative relationships with local school districts, Tribal education departments, state agencies, universities, and community organizations.
· Participate in grant-related activities, special projects, and community outreach as assigned.
· Maintain professional competence through ongoing professional development and continuing education.
· Support the mission, vision, values, and strategic goals of Blackfeet Community College.
· Perform other duties as assigned by the Education Division Chair or Dean of Academic and Student Success.
Qualifications
· Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education, Education, or a closely related field required.
· Master's degree in Education, Curriculum and Instruction, Educational Leadership, or a closely related field preferred.
· Minimum of three (3) years of successful teaching experience in K–12 or higher education.
· Experience with curriculum development, assessment, and academic advising preferred.
· Experience working in a Tribal College, community college, or with Native American communities preferred.
· · Demonstrated commitment to student success and culturally responsive teaching practices.

Personal Contacts
Has contact with personnel in all departments, students, Board of Trustees, Blackfeet Tribal departments and programs staff, and other related entities and persons that are necessary to contact to conduct the day-to-day business operations of the
Education Department.
Physical Demands
Work is primarily performed in classroom and office settings. Duties require prolonged periods of sitting, standing, walking, speaking, and extensive use of computers and instructional technology. Occasional lifting of instructional materials and equipment up to 25 pounds may be required.
This position requires regular evening instruction on Mondays and Thursdays. Additional daytime work includes office hours, advising, committee meetings, recruitment activities, and professional development. Occasional travel and participation in college and community events may also be required.
