Job Purpose/Scope

Responsible for advanced engineering support, process optimization, and technical leadership for Coinage Department manufacturing operations. This role provides subject matter expertise in electroplating, burnishing, annealing, and other metal finishing operations, and leads initiatives to improve safety, quality, efficiency, and cost performance.

Job Duties/Responsibilities Essential Functions

40% Provide advanced technical leadership for Coinage Department manufacturing processes including electroplating, burnishing, annealing, rinsing systems, and associated finishing operations. Troubleshoot complex process issues, analyze trends, and implement sustainable corrective actions.

25% Put forward, lead, and direct cost improvement initiatives to meet departmental objectives to include, but not limited to, safety, quality, efficiency, and cost focused projects.

20% Lead and execute major process improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, throughput, and cost reduction. Utilize statistical methods, process modeling, and experimental design to optimize manufacturing processes.

5% Develop and maintain documentation for processes including control plans, work instructions, inspection forms, etc. and assist in providing materials for training operators.

10% Evaluate, specify, and implement new equipment, automation systems, and process technologies that enhance plating and finishing performance. Lead scale‑up activities for new processes and production lines.

  • Work with EH&S Department to ensure processes, personnel, and equipment operate in a safe and environmentally compliant manner.
  • Coordinate Maintenance Department work in assigned areas.
  • Work with key leaders to determine root cause and corrective measures as assigned.
  • Work with Quality Department to assure products meet or exceed specifications and provide appropriate information for any customer quality complaints.
  • Work with Development Department to roll out and scale up new processes.
  • Work with Supervisors to troubleshoot operational issues.
  • Use 8D, 5 Why, FEMA, Design of Experiments, and SPC to improve operations.
Knowledge/Experience/Skills Knowledge
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering required.
Experience
  • Eight years minimum experience in manufacturing process engineering.
  • Strong background in electroplating or other metal finishing operations.
  • Certified Electroplater Finisher (CEF) preferred.
  • Understanding of cost accounting concepts and capital project management.
Skills
  • Statistical/industrial process control and data analytics.
  • Good written and oral communication skills with all levels of the organization.
  • Good interpersonal skills including the ability to lead by example, function with the team, and direct and influence others in a positive fashion.
Physical & Mental Demands

Physical Demands: Occasional, frequent, constant or essential activities such as physical activity, lifting light up to 10 lbs, lifting medium up to 30 lbs, lifting heavy up to 50 lbs, and lifting very heavy over 50 lbs. Pushing tasks may also be required.
